Tecnically its not actually a diffuser its a valance but the fins make it look like one. It will be the same colour if you dont paint it, its just that the fins that will be different. The fins are black originally but really you can have them any colour you want i suppose. If you were going to do it i'd maybe suggest doing all your other grills/inserts at the same time so it all matched.
