Hi All

I took my for a good drive down a motorway the other day and was wondering whether anybody had thought the same as me? I feel that a 6 speed box could be justified in the as when cruising down the motorway in 5th the engine seems to be reving quite high. Just wondering if anyone else has an opinion on this. I would like to hear comments.

Cheers

Matt

Yep a ot of people came to this conclusion after the first few STs were being driven around. I guess it is true but its nothing that hugely bothers me.

Yes I agree with you Matt I think it would have been good with a six speed box, but at the end of the day I'm sure it would have pushed the price up more and put it near or above the Clio Cup RRP of £13900 which Ford were obviously trying to avoid.

I still think that a limited slip diff would have been more useful than a 6th gear. But I agree that for the price it's a great package already as it is.

Yeah I thought that too when I first went on the motorway! Sounds like it is reving very high but it was sitting about the same as my old 1.4 fiesta? weird...

If you don,t break the speed limit it does alright. But personallt the ST is not for M way cruising.

my old 1.4 sat at 3100rpm at 70mph. The ST is 3400rpm.

Yep I do agree that it would have been nice to have a sixth gear, it can get a little loud at times.

I thought the same about the ST on the motorway at first. I do a fair bit of motorway driving and it did get on my nerves a bit with the high revving and noise.
I had a 1.6 Astra before (wouldn't recommend it) and it was revving about the same doing 70mph as the ST.
But, The Astra would run out of steam when going a bit faster when the ST just keeps going.
A 1.4 Fiesta may be the same revs when doing 70mph but it wont go on to 130mph like the ST does.
I soon got used to it and love blasting the bigger cars

thats very similar to my sportka. it revs at 3500rpm at 70 mph and goes up 500rpm for every 10mph higher, eg 80mph being 4000rpm and so on. i can get about 122mph (speedo reading) out of the sportka. it does take a while but it does get there. whats the revving at when its at 100mph?

A 6 Speed box would be better for Motorway cruising, although i did notice that the noise is reduced slightly at 80 + MPH to around 115, sadly though this doesn't help the RPM.

* I must point out that i only know this from Driving on a local Government owned Road!.
