Yet another topic on lowering, but it's kinda specific, can't really find an answer...

I'm debating between coilovers and springs for the Zetec; I'm 19 with a part-time job, so cost is a big consideration. If I could get away with springs and still get the look I'm after, that'd be great. I want it to look pretty slammed, either on 17's or 18's. Actually saw a Zetec yesterday on 17's and springs and it looked pretty low, almost what I'm after.

My questions are; could I get away with springs, and if so which ones, since it'd be a fairly big drop, and also - can I fit the springs before the alloys? Or do I have to fit the alloys first and then drop her?

Cheers for any help folks.

andy.

Im not too hot with all the lowering but i'd personally go with 17" alloys, believe me they are a DAMN SITE less expensive...

Im sure someone will answer your question though!!!

If you drop it too much and put big wheels on it you'll have all sorts of problems with rubbing and so on, if i were you i would take scott's (FiestaRS) advice and lower it to the same height as an ST, that way you know its still all gonna work and you will still get decent ride quality. As for the wheels i wouldnt go any bigger than 17'' cos they dont really suit the car if they are too big

Was thinking that 17's would be less expensive when it came to getting new tyres, too! I'll take a look at the ST suspension, see what it's all about

Think my problem is I never think of the practicalities - mind you, I'm 19 so I shouldn't have to My mate offered me coilovers for a really good price, that's what's swaying me in that direction. Probably work out cheaper than ST suspension from Ford :o

noticed that on ford site it lists eibach lowering springs as an official accessory for the new fiesta. I wonder how much they will charge for that. should also apply to your car aswell andy as the facelift is only cosmetic changes so as far as i know suspension should be the same

Yeah but if Ford fit, you warranty remains intact (when using ford approved springs), unless of course your cars out of warranty.

If you buy the parts from and fit them urself (or tell them you did) then your warranty is fine as its ford parts, keep the receipt!!! It would not affect anything and would save a massive hole that would otherwise be burnt through your pockets!!!

To save a bit of money, I'm sure you can supply the springs (again as long as they are the ford approved ones) and get ford to fit them.

scott that not ture about fitting them your self, and keeping the warranty, but it is ture that if you buy ford parts keep the receipt and get another garage to fit them but they have to be aproved by ford then you do keep your warranty

Interesting. Would be a good subject to actually check up on and see what the warranty terms and conditions say.

Your probably right though, will do anything to try and make you pay them £70 an hour for doing a £30 job.
