Hi Guys,

I have just joined up after buying a 2005/55 reg fiesta ST (Love it).
The car is currently standard with 40k miles and lots of history.

I have noticed two issues in the last couple of days of driving and think they may be related and wondered if anyone could offer any ideas or solutions or if they have encountered similar.

Firstly; At idle (which the car does well and sounds normal around 850rpm) the rev counter only just about moves from the zero 0 reading. When driving the car, the rev counter seems to show what I would expect.

Secondly; Occasionally the car seems to take longer to start but if cranked over for a few seconds starts ok but not on the button.

Any help would be much appreciated.

hi and welcome contact ur local ford garage and find out if it had a ecu update or clean your TB

welcome along, 40K me thinks that throttle body wil be black !
Worth a clean before you pay Ford any money, also could well need the latest update.
The 2.0 does take a bit of turning over, new battery might help with a bit more oomph, when did it have a new battery and plugs last.

Thanks for the replies so far.
So cleaning the throttle body will assist the starting or the idle?
I believe the car is idling correctly and that the rev counter is at fault or is this what the update would sort out?
The car doesn't hunt which in my experience is a sign of a dirty TB.?

I will contact my ford dealer tomorrow and see if they know if its up to date. I'm guessing they charge for the update, 1/2 hour labour or am I being optimistic?

everything will be better, its the first part of the air intake system, just carefully clean the butterfly flap and surround with some carb cleaner.

Ha ha nooo I used carb cleaner. I have thoroughly cleaned the TB and butterfly edges as much as possible. (Had fun putting the clips back on the hoses!)

Its not made any difference to the low idle speed showing on idle.
I am convinced the car is idling correctly at 850-900rpm it is the rev counter which is mis-showing reading about 400rpm when cold and then 0-100rpm when warm.
The engine sounds like its revving 1400rpm when cold and 850-900rpm warm so pretty textbook!

Has anyone ever seen this before? Could it be my dash pod screwed?

I think you're right. I'm convincing myself its ECU related as i'm pretty sure this sends the rpm signal to the gauge. Failing this then possibly the dash pod. I know some of the focus's suffered dash pod faults...

Think i'm going to have to book it in. I can't find anything similar on the net and have searched hard!
