Hello people, hope your all well. Took my car on a private road today to see what i could do, and as i reached 100mph, the car started to vibrate quite violently. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Only mods ive done is lower 35mm and ive changed my front tyres. Could it have something to do with balancing/allignment or tyre pressure?

Get back to me you lovely people.

either down to tracking/ balancing or worst case scenario you could have a slightly buckled wheel
my mom hit a curb pretty quickly head on in the snow- when you got to around 60 there was some pretty serious shaking going on... took it to a garage and he put it on the tyre fitter thing and span it round and you could literally see it wobbling!

Probably worth checking your tyre pressures etc as well- always good to keep them what they should be anyway as lower pressure reduces handling and increases fuel consumption

Tbh i think it might be the latter, buckled wheel. The potholes in Edinburgh are a DISGRACE. whats the outcome with that, im guessing new alloys have to be purchased?

it was on a steely on the moms old car so we replaced the rim from the spare with the buckled one. obviously can't do that on the ST
not sure if there is a way to repair it if it is buckled? might not be much cheaper than buying a single new alloy?
Its a b*stard whichever you end up doing mate- obviously get it confirmed to be buckled before you do anything else but if you do end up needing a new one here's a link
http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/st150_7jx17_alloy_wheel_82.htm

Oh and just to mention- i think the majority of cars shake a slight bit at that sort of speed- my ST and my old car shook around the 80-90 mark but as you get past that it wears off. If it is a buckled wheel it'd get worse as the speed increased i'd imagine so you could try going a slight bit quicker than that if you can get back on the private road to see if it does eventually wear off? not the safest way to do it haha but might give you a better idea?

sorry for the essay

Front road wheels out of balance ( shows mainly through the steering wheel) Rear roadwheels out of balance will cause a vibration through the car, make sure your tyre pressures are correct and your brakes are not binding firstly. Make sure your tyres arent damaged, if you hit a pothole hard enough it could damage the tyre sidewall, damaged alloy wheel as already mentioned.

dont waste money on getting the rear wheels checked there is no adjustment on them!

its probably just tracking it can be bad at 100 if its only slightly out, i never got wheel wobble at 70 on the roads but at ford fair i got to 120 down hanger straight and boy did it vibrate! got it tracked then at trax it was as smooth as a pit girls bottom!
