My rear wheels are seized up a bit from all the snow and ice. The front wheels turn fine. The car's been sitting for maybe 2 days since it was last used (when I couldn't get it out of the street on Sunday morning, last time I used it before that was Friday evening). When they're on the concrete, they spun a little bit, but when on the snow they don't/hardly turn.

I had brand new front and back brakes 2 weeks ago during a Major service, and they have been fine until now.

I've just read this thread on a renault site that says to hit the rear drum with a hammer to unseize it or something. Will this work? Am I taking that wheel off?

Where do you smack it with a mallet? On the actual tyre?

I put a lump of wood between the wheel, onto the drum thing behind the wheel, then hit the other end of the wood with a wooden mallet - not hard, just a knock. Did it in about 3 places around each wheel, then sprayed some de icer in there for good measure.

I've left it with the handbrake off and in 1st gear now.

Hmmmm we shall see, drove to my mates house and my back left wheel was dragging along, pulled over and saw my back left brake disc BRIGHT RED and sizzling all over the joint...was pretty scared.

The tyre fitters had to do that with my wheels when the car was only a year old when I first got it! They wouldn't come off. The previous owner hadn't took them off for anything in the whole year...

Good thinking!
