In July I trapped my sciatic nerve in my back and had go stop muay Thai training. I wa training 3-4 times a week.

I hopped on the scales yesterday and have put 2 STONE on! I can lose weight pretty quick when I'm focused.

Does anybody know what is better exercise for cutting weight out of running and cycling? I always thought running was better but it's pretty bad on the knees!

anything that keeps your body in fat burning zone, so volume and no intensity, long cycle rides, long quickish walks, swimming.

Cycling is always good when recovering from injury, as it's low impact when compared to running.

Also swimming is a good way to build up strength.

Antics, depends on the injury mate

Looking at it calories per hour you will burn more running simply because you are using more muscle groups but if ur working hard and are effectively in your fat burning zone (65% of your maximum heart rate) then you will be on to a winner

Right ok so I don't need to go flat out? Steady pace for a longer distance better than fast pace short distance. If cycling it will be most likely be on a machine because there isn't anywhere to ride near my house. I quite like running on the streets though

Yes mate as i said 65% of your maximum heart rate is ideal for you to burn fat, running will probably get your HR higher than that.

For easy sums and to avoid confusing you use this formula:

220 minus your age gives you a theoretical maximum HR, work out 65% of that figure and thats what you need to aim for. Its not the best way of doing it but it will give an idea.

Right I will try that then rob. My heart rate is quite low resting. I measured it last week and it was 56 bpm.

I hit my max heart rate yesterday, 184bpm up a big big climb called Oakenclough, out training with the guys, managed 2nd up the climb chasing one our semi pro riders down, he just rode up like it was flat and put 200m into me, mind he has just done 1,500 miles in four weeks in Tenerifie training with his team mates and also had a ride with Mark Webber who was there training
