I've got to the point now realising is it worth it modding an engine that's done 53K that probably by the end of this year will have 60-70k miles. I was planning for this car to be a project car for track days and summer driving an the odd occasional cruise.

If I do embark on the 300bhp+ boat on a engine that's run a lot of miles since 2008 I'm afraid I'll be wasting my time in maintaining an engine and eventually replacing it 2-3 years later as it's loosing or all ready lost most of it's power and play.

Do you reckon I should give it a go?

Or just get a new engine and start from the bottom up?

Surely as you rework bits etc, the engine gets bits and pieces that need replacing replaced
I mean mines got 90,000 on and still plan to continue modifying to hit the 300 club in the future

as long as you keep the engine in tip top it will be fine

you reckon?

I mean I got the help of my brother.

just that I cba spending £3k like I did on my GT-four which had done 60k when i brought it to have a complete make over had everything cleaned and replaced if necessary that was a massive job too.

He reckons I'd be better off (cheaper) just getting another engine block from pumaspeed easier for him as he can take it apart and put the performance cam rod's seals and pistons in there and then before dropping it in.

Plus he reckons I can make money back by selling this engine I have now for £600-£1400 on ebay.

which is an appealing idea, just thoughts really would like a 2nd opinion im sat on a fence at the moment

I'm sending it in in 3 weeks time to have a run on a dyno see what BHP it's pushing I'm hoping 160BHP+ if not massively under achieving with what mods it's already got.

He will tell me then if it's worth replacing the engine before internal stuff is put in.

If you are being as serious as you sound, strip it out and put the 2.3duratec in an get it charged.

Going to get engine clean/rebuild!

my brother called me today said him and his colleague will do it at his barn for £1,000 I have to supply them with parts I want put in and additional replacements where necessary. Will take them a week to do it.

Bargain I thought, compared to money I paid before!

I'm going to have it done at 70K miles so ages yet but great price!

Yeah I'm going to do that first before anything else then add on the externals and see the BHP go nut's as I add on.

Need to get saving though now I've got almost £4,000 make over I think I haven't totalled up my wish list yet and this is just on the engine alone!

Hopefully next year I'll have something to compete with you kaxe :P
