Alright guys,

Well i have had the ST since last week and the only fault i can find is the crappy standard head unit.

How do i go on about getting this changed and putting my own head unit in it. I have got a single din Ripspeed Touch screen dvd player where the 7" screen slides out. Had this DVD player in my last car and think its a very good piece of kit, so i would like to keep it.

In my ST, i have the 3 unit head unit thing.

Had a quick search through google and found this: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_fiesta_mk6_single_din_mounting_kit_929.htm

Is that the right kit i need and will there be anything else i need? Also is it a hard job fitting ect?

Thanks

Ryan

Nah, that adaptor is for facelift, if you have the 'three bars' head unit then you must own a pre-facelift ST.

AFAIK it's a bit of a mare to replace the pre-facelift HU, I'll let someone else elaborate!

Hmmm doesn't sound to promising lol.

If it is to much hassle and there is a chance i could make a mess of the dash board, ill just have to leave it.

Anyone done this on here and made a good job of it?

Thanks

I did mine myself and fitted a double din.
Its a case of taking the dash part off then cutting out the bars

then for single din you will need something like this...

You can buy the dash unit its about £55

The only thing I found is I scraped the old headunit quite badly

Where some gloves when doing it

Don't have time to explain the rest atm, will later if no one else has

The dash is a bit of a pain to get off, there is a clip on on of the heater dial that is extreamly tight to get to and very easily broke, and as Adam said a clip near the top of the hole in the middle is very sharp and can easily scratch the headunit

Heres a good guide but still a pain Good luck :P

Stick some thick tape over the ford emblem in the middle of your headunit before removing the panal this will stop you scratching the

Thanks for replying guys and helping me out.

Think ill just leave it though, seems more hassle than its worth. Already thrown my dv720 on Ebay.

Been playing with all bass and treble ect today, made it sound a load better. Also figured out what button is pause lol.

Put some new speakers in, makes a big improvement and easier than changing the headunit

An amp is required then.

Generally speaking your speakers can only run as good as the amp its connected too, so if you get better speakers on the same standard headunit, they will either not work at all (most likely) or the quality will be exactly the same. Aftermarket speakers are alot better, require more power and wattage to run, so they can't run off the standard headunit as that doesnt have an integrated amp. Thats why alot of people who keep standard speakers and get a better headunit notice a huge difference in quality in their standard speakers - the amp inside the new headunit is sending more power to the speakers.

Well I replaced the standard speakers before the headunit and the sound quality was much improved
The depth of the music was much better, more bass to it and had no issues what so ever
