Right over the past few weeks I have been trying to find out answers about potential audio setups within the ST and think I know most of the bits. However I think it would benefit a lot of people to have this type of thread to clear things up about audio questions.

I am planning on running a sub and amp of the standard head unit this is my head unit from the front and back.

I plan on splicing the rear speaker cables and converting to RCA and then running them in to the amp. Here you can find the wiring diagram for the cables at the back:

http://www.fordfiestast.co.uk/showflat.php?Number=189128

Does anyone know what the spare port at theback of the head unit is for?

Also where have people running the power cable? I can't get it through what looks like a grommit to the back of the glove box.

Finally- How in the world has anyone successfully managed to connect the heater control on the far right (at the bottom) after they have unattached it! Spent about an hour solid trying to get the rod thing at the back in and failed miserably.

When i got my radio fitted on my pre-op ( ) the bloke reached up around behind the stero in the gap in the drivers footwell right at the back and uncliped the cable and it came out the front loads instead of the 5mm it normally does

Not sure excatly how he done it but have a feel about round there

Right I got everything sorted but I have decided on just getting a new head unit.

I am confused though....

I need one of these I am guessing...this goes in the gaping hole so that an aftermarket double din unit can fit in and stay in yeah?

Then do I need to cut the bar off across the middle of the dash?

Yes that's the correct one as it's mentions the three piece stereo and having to cut the bars out (which you will need to do).

Surely that will look cack?

Do the edges where you cut not look rubbish?

A few people have replaced them. As long as it's done right, it looks fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Any links/info to the other dash?

I have this one at the mo so I could probably sell it on and make the money back:

The kit you posted is for the facelift, you have the pre-facelift.
I cut the bars out of my pre-facelift and have installed the following:

I like that!

What unit is that?

I ideally want one that sits out a bit so that it covers up the cuts!

p.s my rear/front heaters are on the left hand side....
