Decided to go a nice ride to a beach in Wales today, about 2 hours into the journey crusing along at 60mph all of a sudden the interior light comes on engine cuts out and all dials on the dash die!!! No lights come up on the dash, no engine management...nothing.



So pulled over and restarted the car no problem, and managed to drie home another 2 hours with no problem.



Any ideas what could have caused this? I'm sure I have read on a forum somewhere about someone else having this problem, but cant remember where.

It is, at first my heart dropped and I thought cam belt had gone, but the strangest thing was the interior light coming on, as if the ignition had been turned off and key removed.

Oh forgot to say the red light was flashing too, not the engine management one, the central one that flashes once you have locked the door

right mate good news and bad news....

Bad news is the only way that can happen is your electrics have just tripped, basically you just short circuited the electrics some how, which caused the battery and ECU to cut power completely.

Good news is you caught it now before you wont be able to turn over the car as it will constantly short circuit.

Take it to the garage and explain the problem, i cant remember but when i took my ST to get an alternator replaced the electrician was saying they have a lot of Fords come in with naked cabling in the engine bay which when it touches water it cuts the power to the car completely.

they can't work out a cause to how it happens but they have a solution.

Get it checked into a car electrical specialist that deals with such issues, ford if you can and covered on a warranty

Well it's not in warranty, sounds like it could be expensive?

wouldn't assume so but you wont find out till you get it checked out buddy. take it in see what they say.

Engine light come on did the dash board light up aswell?

No lights come on the dash, none at all, just the central locking light started flashing

Get the battery checked first, maybe as simple as a fecked one or on its way out one...........
