Hi all, just got my 2005 spec silver ST yesterday (Red Interior)......what a pleasure to drive. Anyway i have not had it long and i already have a question which i see has not been asked on here which i find strange since it can be a problem.

Everyday when i enter work and leave work, the security gaurd must check in the boot of the car. I have noticed that the only way to open the boot is to switch off the car and then press the button. This is not ideal as it means i have to switch the engine off and 10 seconds later i must switch the engine back on.

Is this normal for the boot button to only work when the car is off cause if it is i dont understand the logic.

And does anyone have any idea whether stopping and starting the engine with such a short delay almost twice everyday of the year can cause problems in the future.

And if it can be a problem in the future is there anyway to solve it.

I know it is not a serious issue but just thought i pose the question at least.....you never know.

Nope, engine has to be turned off...

Also stopping and starting of the car isn't that big a deal, it just uses ur starter motor more, ur engine will be fine

Interestingly, that is one of the annoying little things that has been fixed in the 2006MY. The boot won't open when the car is moving but will when it's stopped even with the engine running. I'm glad they changed it as I used to have the same problem your having poolmania with my SportKa. And you're right, it was a pain in the arse!

Im glad the focus doesn't have this problem, would drive me up the wall having to do that all the time.

Can you not get an ECU upgrade to the Mk2 and get the switch reprogrammed???

I guess you must be able to I suppose. I'm sure it wouldn't be a cheap thing to have done though, especially direct through Ford.

Glad to see thev're changed it back to how it was in earlier mk6 Fiestas. I could open the boot with the button while the engine was running on my '03 and '04 plate Mk6 Fiestas.
