Hi, I seem to remember when the ST first came out reading that the ST was made in England which seemed strange to me as the standard Fiesta is built abroad? This was in Auto Express and they interviewed one of the Chief Engineers and he said something like the Zetec s would still be Made in Spain/ Germany but the ST would be made in the UK?
I only mention this because a lot of people on here say that theirs are being built in Spain. Also where was it mostly developed and where is the engine made (i'm hoping wales)? I know its a strange question but I like to know things like this, i'm quite patriotic I guess. Cheers

Well, i would e suprised if the st was made somewhere else cos the dealer (yes i know they usually know naff all but he actually seemed quite clued up) said that certain models were made on certain days of the month and the st was like a few days at the end of each month or something like that, anyway, just found this on the net....

"The Fiesta ST completes Ford's ST line-up alongside the Mondeo ST220 and the Focus ST170. It's built in Cologne, Germany - as are all Fiestas."

I thought that it was the duratec engine that was made in velencia, spain.

My dealer told me mine was assembled at a production line in Belgium. I would not be surprised if there are more than a single production plant that assembles ST's. I was actually wondering if Ford actually build the engines or if they are delivered to them already assembled by Mazda?

I know that the devlopment and testing was largely done on the Nurnburgring here in Germany. Which is probably why it can lap 5th Gear's test track quicker than some more powerful, more expensive cars.

How do I find out where my ST was built. Will it say somewhere in the docs or on the car or something? It'd be interesting to know as I live about 45 minutes from Koln!

They are built in Cologne - Germany. They are actually converted fiesta Vans off the production line. You can tell this by the VIN number and also when it was made.

As always when this question is asked............look at your VIN plate. The 'W' that the number starts off with indicates the car is manufactured in Germany. I hear a lot of people say that some are made in Spain, but as far as I know, they're all mode in Cologne

Yeah mine starts with a W. I live about 45 minutes from Cologne yet I had to wait 10 days for them to ship the car over to the UK, for me to then travel all the way over to bring it back here to Germany. I have to do it that way anyway so that it's a UK registered car, but it's still very irritating.

I have a "series 2" and the VIN starts with a W so presumably they shipped the assembly line to Spain by now?!

No, they can't stopped making the fiesta ST in Cologne, and dlundh's ST proves this with the 'W' in the VIN. There's no possibilty that this car was biult anywhere other than Germany. Spanish cars, as far as I know, have a VIN starting with 'VS'

Check this link for a VIN decoder, telling you what each letter/number means.
