So, after two months of owning the Fezzie, there's a few things bothering me.

I had a 1.8 TDCI Focus before the ST, and I honestly don't think there's much between them in a race. The Focus was 115BHP, but I timed 0-60 in 7.4 seconds, and it would easily top 125MPH.
The ST I'v got to 120 but the revs were nearly shoving the engine through the bonnet.
Had a little race with a 106GTi the other night. I beat it, just. That has 120BHP, and a 1.6 engine. It also sits at 2600 revs @ 60mph.

The ST sits at 3000 revs. So there's no wonder the ST is a fuel guzzler.

Overall, I'm happy with the ST. It looks great, drives great (Doesn't handle anywhere near as good as the Focus though), and puts a smile on your face.
But the fact I feel my FOcus was possibly quicker and that a 1.6 106 is an adequate rival for it, can't help but feel a little dissapointed with it.

Drive it like you stole it mate, it really will be bye bye GTI. I know where you're coming from though.

MT185 will fix it.

Once I lower it I guess it will be bye bye 106. Still not 100% confident with the handling of the ST.

What did you all pay for 185 kit? Im tempted.

Isn't the 106 much lighter? You've bought the wrong car if you want something super quick. It's useful for overtaking when retards are going 30 on a 50 road.

180 KG lighter.

I don't want a super quick at the moment, but I did expect it to be much quicker than a 1.8 TDCI Focus.

Yeh I would have thought it would be quicker than a 1.8 diesel :-s I remember I got used to mine and then when I got back in my old car I was amazed how quick mine felt.

assuming this all on private roads, puzzled from your tests, the focus shouldn't beat the standard ST but the 106 likely would, it's a sub 8 second car and very very light.

your focus probably had more torque that made it feel more nippy off the line but timing a 0-60 time yourself will never be accurate

the 106 will beat a standard ST as it weighs a few hundred KG less! but i know what one i would choose to be in in a crash!

and then the focus will have a heavier engine so will stick betting in corners but then the fiesta will out handle it on speed in corners with the right tires, the tires make or break an ST!

dont forget about the tyres.... Toyo proxie 4's on 195/50/15 and lowered 50mm and it will already out handle alot of cars and i know the car could be better with lower profile tyres and some axle spacers

on the focus you probably feel torque and the kick of the turbo... ST engine is a slow breather in standard form.... a few notes and it'll feel tottally different...

Times and weights according to parkers
Fiesta ST -
0 - 60: 7.9s
Top speed: 129MPH
Weight: 1165KG

Ford focus Zetec 3 door 1.8 TDCI
0-60: 10.3s
Top speed: 122MPH
Weight: 1279kg

Peugeot 106:
0 - 60: 8.4s
Top Speed: 128MPH
Weight: 950kg

The focus may feel better for handling because the rear wheels are further out... also i belive they do not have one solid complete axle like the ST has.... so it may just feel odd to you... once you know the characteristics of the ST im sure you will be more comfertable....

PS watch out for lift off oversteer

I have to be honest, if I put my foot down in 2nd gear in my Focus Zetec S, it's as fast as my old Fiesta was.....

I feel it handles better too, and I feel safer in it.

Hmmm, nice bit on input here.

I am now gutted though due to the fact a French piece of crap, that is only a 1.6 will beat a ST. Bear in mind though, I did overtake him AND beat him.

Still not convinced that the ST is faster than the Focus. I know it has a turbo etc, but top end speed and acceleration, it woops the ST. May have a little race with the TDCI, My mate has one.

Overall, I love my ST and wouldn't look back, but next time I want a sports hatchback, I think Ill do a little more research.

I think the ST's powerband is just too smooth - not really a bad thing i guess.

The 106GTi.. well i had a Saxo VTS and in all honesty they're about the same the ST may be quicker top end and the ST handling feels better too.. alot more rigid.

The ST is just a good all-rounder all things considered with insurance, price to buy, practicality and performance.

If i wanted something lightning quick i'd of got a 172 (which isnt a hell of a lot faster anyway) but at the end of the day i never look back to my Saxo VTS or to the 172 i test drove, the driving positions ruin both cars.

**edit what sort of modifications do you have on the car atm ash?

Currently have K&N and that's it performance wise.

Do have a few stickers that add 5bhp each lol.

Guessing he had some modifications?

power to weight figures of a 106 GTI 128bhp/ton and Fiesta ST - 132bhp per ton - they're almost identical

ST should be quicker top end (i know real life and paper figures are different)

Torque: 145.0 Nm / 107 ft.lb - 106 GTI
Torque 190 Nm / 140 lb-ft Fiesta ST
