When I connect my iPod through the auxiliary port it seems to be switching from working to not working on one side eg right speakers or not working at all. I know it's not the iPod or the cable as I have double checked these, also changing gear seems to have an effect ? If anyone has had this and managed to resolve It please let me know what you did or the cost of replacing. Any help would be appreciated ! Cheers

I had the EXACT same problem....no need to replace anything.
See my old thread:

http://www.fordfiestast.co.uk/showflat.p...&PHPSESSID=

What I had to do to fix it was take of the gear knob and then the gaiter so I had access to the insides of the centre console thingy. If you look inside to where the AUX socket is located you'll see the wire coming down and chances are it is rubbing/catching on the gear cables. Get some good sticky tape and tape it to the roof of the console...basically so that it doesn't touch the gear cable/lever. And before you put the gear gaiter and knob back on, just test it to make sure its working and make sure you change gears with it on so you can be sure it isn't catching any more.

This whole thing sounds a bit tricky perhaps but it is super easy. I did it and I had no prior experience with anything like this. The gear knob screws right off and the gaiter pulls right off. If you know how to get the centre console thing off you could even do that but I couldn't figure it out...didn't need to in the end though. Let me know how you get on

replace your ipod cable with a gold plated one. That's all needed.

Gold plated are fraction thicker and fit the AUX so much better, only try gold plated ones.

Pretty sure its the exact same problem as mine due to the connection going funny when changing gears, and not due to the cable betweem mp3/ipod and AUX socket. The Aux cable from the head unit/stereo runs down from the back of the stereo and hangs from the front passenger side of the centre console. It then goes over the gear cable into the AUX socket which is on the drivers side...this was what mine was like anyway. It had just dropped down a bit and the gear cable was pulling and pushing it about, making it go all funny exactly as you have described Dale. Would be all left speaker and super quiet one minute, change gear and suddenly its blasting out of both, change gear, goes funny again etc etc.

As for ripping the rubber gear gaitor off...no need to be so violent :P It clips into place and just requires a little tug to get it out (the whole plastic ring base comes off with it). Once you're done it fits back into place nicely and the gear knob screws back on.

Thanks for all the help it is now working perfectly. I unscrewed the gear nob and removed the gaitor like you said ET07, I then tucked the cable up behind the wiring for the cigarette lighter and its
Wedged in there and doesn't seem to be going anywhere, seems to have fixed it thanks again for the help

Good stuff mate This issue bugged me for months before I decided to finally sort it out. Now I can listen to all my music...just a shame the stock speakers are pretty pants

Yeah mines has been like that for months too had to listen to CD's all the time ! You think the stock speakers are bad ? I have the upgraded Sony cd player don't know if it makes a difference but it sounds pretty decent to me, nothing compared to my old focus with its 1000w sub though

I had this problem once! Take your gaitor off and look inside normally you find the wire hangs down and hits the gear linkage which causes the speakers to go off just tape it out the way or force it behind the cigarette lighter wiring that's what I've done works a treat lol

Edit i didn't even read the rest and youve sorted it already

The standard speakers aren't bad at all!
With a change of head unit it made a huge difference and they are very reasonable considering!
