Just got the facelift ST and everytime i start the car the stereo scares the crap out of me, It starts up on volume 5 even if i turn it down when i start it up again its back at 5. How do i set this to start lower?

Also what the hell is COMP in the menu, it just seems to distort when on?

Thanks in advance...

I've got a series 1 ST *lol* You'll have to wait for someone with a series 2 to read this post & reply

does it not say what COMP is in your radio manual?? No idea why your stereo is starting at 5 though.

nope doesn't say anything, i can just ignore that and the stereo isn't too loud would just be a bit happier for it to start a little lower.

Is it anything to do with the AVC (Automatic Volume Control) settings in the menu that compensate for engine noise. You can alter the level??!!

COMP stands for Compact Disk Track Compression and with this feature on quieter music is boosted and louder music is lowered to minimise repeated volume adjustments, I Think!!

COMP is rubbish lol it just distorts music as far as I can tell, i thought my rear speakers weren't wired correctly at first..

Its not AVC either it just starts at 5 even without turning the engine on...

Does anyone have a facelift stereo that doesn't start at 5, the saleman told me he had never been asked that before so didn't know.... he said it could be AVC too but then we ruled that out...

You might be best trying to PM some facelift owners, cos that way they can't miss your question, try big boy benji, kentish dude and fezzy, i'm sure they'd be more than happy to help and they all have facelifts, just an idea

I get the same problem too. It's only a problem for me though when I have turned the engine off with the volume lower than that. If I have the volume higher than 5 it starts again with it as I left it. COMP is on in my stereo but it only applies to the CD and as I have the aux in socket I always listen to my MP3 player so I'm not too sure about it. I had it in my sportka though and I always had it on. Richt is correct in his description of what it does.

Just out of interest as well, what do people have their bass and treble settings on. I always fiddle about with mine to see which gives me the best sound?

on a standard headunit?
i hvae it on max bass and treble. and about volme 6 or something if you turn the volume up to high i find you have to turn the bass and treble down or it sounds awful but then i don't have a facelift
my mates used to do this: except it used to reprogram to classical fm and blast your ears out when you started it up - funny when she ever took it to a garage
