Thanks mate, thats amazing! Only problem is, Im over here in Northern Ireland which adds the premium up!!

Also, what price should I be realistically looking at paying for a base ST facelift from a Ford Dealer? I'll be part exchanging a car in, but would be interested to know what price the dealer can actually do?

well im in kent and the dealers arnt that open to barganing at the mo as people are buying lots of St's. I payed £13759 for mine but had lots of extras including bluetooth, private glass, stripes ect...... I had a 03 plate vauxhall astra sxi with 24000 on the clock which i part ex'ed getting £5500 for so i was happy. I think the best bet is to go in and have a chat, every dealer is different so do your homework on what spec you want first and then go in with details and have a price in mind for your part ex if u have it on paper then they might be more flexable. But remember if u cant get what you wont dont settle for a crap offer but then agian if its close to what u want it might be worth it.

22 years old, was a named driver for 4 years, only been on my own insurance for the past 9 months. No claims or anything though.

Adding my father onto my insurance made it down to £1700.

If I could find it for about £1200 I would go out and buy the car tomorrow!

Hi there

Welcome to the forum mate.

Hope you enjoy posting on here, we're all a friendly bunch, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

With insurance mine is with admiral as well (£553 at 26 with 2 years ncb) so thats not a lot of help really with the quote you've got. Maybe try somewhere like www.confused.com. Although it doesn't cover all insurers, they do list most of the ones they don't get quotes off, so at least you'll then know who else to try. Also www.moneysupermarket.com uses lots of insurers as well - I actually got a cheaper quote than what I'm paying from them, but didn't end up taking it because the excess was going to be a bit too high for me.

With regards to what you can expect to get knocked off the list price from a dealer, try getting some quotes from online dealers first:
www.coast2coastcars.co.uk www.broadspeed.co.uk or www.allbrandsnew.co.uk.
Gareth off this site took in a quote from an online broker into a dealership and managed to get a couple of grand taken off, so it might work for you, certainly something that might be worth trying anyway.

Hope this will be some help to you mate!

Take care
ChrisC

Thanks for all the tips - gonna spend this afternoon trying to get a decent quote!

£1200 and I'm there, the car will be bought this week!

Are the facelifted models worth it? Dealer quoted £13500 for a new facelift, or £11995 for a new pre-facelift?

TBH I'm surprised that any new pre-facelifts are available, if you can afford it you should probably go for the facelift one. Ultimately it has got more features than the older one, and also will hold its value better in the future.

Heres the main changes with the facelift:
New lights on the outside, the headlights have little blobs on them, and the rear ones now have two reversing lights instead of one; dials now include analogue fuel and temp guages rather than digital ones; onboard computer which has outside temp, mpg, miles left, average speed and other settings; 1 touch down electric window; gear lever surround and interior door handles are now shiney not matt; vents for side windows have been moved onto the dash; sidelights switch on when unlocked (home safe lights); new style cdplayer; steering wheel airbag reshaped; lane change indicators (1 touch 3 flashes).

New optional extras:
Bluetooth hands free phone with voice control system; portable music connection socket; electric folding mirrors; rain sensor including auto headlights activation; EATC - Electronic Auto Temperature control; second remote key.

Unfortunalty as u havnt had your own insurance for long and have only been a named driver its gonna be like starting a fresh. The car is a group 13 so it is high, dont stretch your budget too much is all i would say.

You've prob already done this already, but the only things I can think of straight away are to increase the voluntary excess (but don't have it so high that you couldn't afford it if you did have an accident) and also to make sure the mileage isn't way above what you expect to do. Also, silly as this sounds someone on here got the premium reduced simply by setting the annual mileage at 9,999 instead of 10,000!

It will be high quotes you will get, since you haven't had any insurance in your own name before. Having said that I know when I've looked at quotes online in the past that some insurers say they may take account of time as a named driver but you would have to phone them up to discuss it. Unfortunately I can't remember offhand which ones they were sorry, will have to have a think.

Yep got it down to about £1600 by lowering the mileage a little bit.

Looks like the ST is gonna have to wait until July when I have 1 years NCB

Hopefully once you have 1 years ncb it should be more affordable, maybe worth getting some quotes putting in one years ncb, see if it looks better for you.

Its not too far off to July, and the time will go quicker than you think. A lot of people are having to wait a couple of months for theirs to be built, so if it looks good for you once July comes round maybe think about ordering yours sometime in May.

Norwich Union are usually pretty good with young drivers.

As previously said... Once you have 1 Years NCB under your wings your premium will fly down!!!

Well I managed to get it down to £1400 on Admiral which is getting there! When the 1 years NCB hits it should go down to £1200!!

Are there any insurance companies out there then that take named driving experience into hand? Ive been driving many miles per week for nearly five years without an accident, and it seems that they are taking my 0 years NCB as a sign of me being a bad driver!

Also I'm sure you can get the extra few hundred off the car, I got £1000 off the list price with my dealer. If you go in to buy it and tell them you'll sign the papers now for the right deal they will be much happier to negotiate....

Oh thats great news, you've managed to get it down to even lower than what you was hoping for!

Just follow your heart in what you think is the best colour for you personally to go for m8.
