Right have a few questions regarding MOT's:

1 - If i have baby blue led sidelights will this fail the mot?

2 - if one side of the bulbs line of sight is higher than the others will this fail?

Ive looked around and seen that these will so looks like i will have to change my HOD's with my existing ones aswell as the sidelights.

But want an MOT testers thoughts (STash)

Thanks

Evening mate.

1. How blue are they mate? If they obviousley emit blue light, it's a fail. If it's more a white light with a tint of blue, it's testers discretion. If I were you, I'd put ordinary bulbs in for the test and then swap them back afterwards.

2. It doesn't matter if one is higher than the other mate. So long as the beam line is within the legal requirements on both sides, it will pass. If they are not within the requirements, the tester will (Normally) adjust them for you.

They arent extremely blue, more of a baby blue but you can see white in them, ill take a picture and then post it up to show you.

The old man said he would adjust if one is higher so hopefully wont have to grab original bulbs from looey, but we shall see when it starts to get dark.

Give me a few minutes and i shall take a picture and upload it.

I had led sidelights in my old standard headlights that were the same colour as these and it went through no problem

Surely if it does fail don't they just put the bulbs in and pass it? My old cars side repeater bulb literally failed just before it had the mot and they only charged me 48p for a new bulb and passed it. And if they don't I'm pretty sure they give you a certain amount of time to get it fixed and then do a retest for free? That's what they do at my local garage

Yeh a local garage might do but this is s**t fit and they will prob charge an arm and a leg anyway.

Best bet is get a set of sidelights from halfrauds or willkos then fit them. I dont want any excuse from the garage to fail my car

From VOSA's website:

"No fee may be charged for the retest if:

a. The vehicle stays at the Vehicle Test Station (provided the test station does not change ownership) at which the examination took place so that defects on testable items can be repaired and the vehicle is retested before the end of the 10th working day following the day of the initial test. It should be noted that the vehicle must remain at the Vehicle Test Station and it must not leave the vehicle test station at any time;

or b. (i) The vehicle is retested at the same Vehicle Test Station (provided the test station does not change ownership) where the vehicle failed the test before the end of the next working day on which testing is carried out;

and (ii) The vehicle was failed only for one or more of the following; Bonnet, boot lid, brake pedal anti-slip, direction indicators/hazard warning, doors, dropsides, fuel filler cap, horn, lamps (excluding headlamp aim), loading door, mirrors, rear reflectors, registration plates, seat belts (but not anchorages), seats, sharp edges or projections, steering wheel, tailboard, tailgate, towbars (excluding body around anchorage points), vehicle identification number (VIN), windscreen and glass, windscreen wipers/washers, wheels and tyres.

If the vehicle is removed from the vehicle test station for repair and returned to the same VTS (provided the test station does not change ownership) and is retested before the end of the 10th working day following the day of the initial test, then only a partial retest is needed and a retest fee of up to half the statutory maximum test fee may be charged."

They would pass mate. If they failed them, you could appeal and they'd be in serious trouble.

Don't worry about your headlights. Should they need adjusting, they should do this for free mate.
