Hey guys, my turn for a rant!

I went home for lunch and on the way had an issue. A speedy hire van was travelling way too fast (Must of been atleast double the speed limit - it was madness!) and was carrying dirty items on his flatbed.

As he was approaching me he hit some dips in the road (pretty sure I saw his wheels leave the road) so whilst fearing for my life thinking the knob head in the van was going to lose control and come through my window, I heard a loud bang. I now have 2 chips on my windscreen which are only just out of my line of vision caused by a stone that hit me and must have split in some way!

Anyway, where do I stand? Called my insurance (Admiral - who I have windscreen cover for) and they want £25 for 1 chip, now as there are two I'm guessing they will want £50, plus some silicone in an old one has come out so that will be another £25 making it £75...now a new windscreen from them is only £70!

Although, I am a bit annoyed as it was this idiots fault so I don't really want to have to cough up my own money because he was driving dangerously and the massive bump in the road caused stones from his vehicle to come lose and hit my windscreen (Which could have ended much worse!).

Any ideas?

I think i'm just going to leave it until it cracks. I have been offered next day service, so I shouldn't have to wait to long when it does go!

Just a bit annoyed I'm having to pay because someone else can't drive!

A large object to hit the windscreen would be nice to just increase the length of one of the chips... My windscreen has a large crack so needs replacing... another hit and it might just crack some more... need to be careful!

hammer?

Could be too obvious... maybe a piece of wood and then smashing a hammer onto the wood to the windscreen?

Obviously i'm not talking about doing this to an insured car by any sorts. That would be ridiculous.

My windscreen smashed last month or two (there's a thread somewhere), i'm with admiral also, £70 for the screen, took them over a day to actually send someone out though -_-. Just throw a rock through your screen and say that's what happened ^_^. Although, you've already rung about chips now so...they might be suspicious?

I've had a single chip in the windscreen before, a couple of occasions infact, however, each time I've phoned the insurance company/windscreen guys the result has always been a replacement windscreen. This lead me to believe it's rarely practical to repair a chip, either that or it's a plan for the glass company's to get more money out of us/insurance companies.

Now if you've got a few chips and it's been repaired before it may well be it has to be replaced anyway. So before getting carried away why not go and see autoglass or someone like that? Even if you don't get the work done after them taking a look at it because you haven't spoken to your insurance company yet, it's worth getting someone in the know to advise you.

As for the stupid driver, he sounds like an idiot but a stonechip could have happened anywhere at anytime.

I bet Ash will be one of the lucky ones and the rock he throws at his screen will bounce off and dent and scratch the s**t out of his bonnet

Tom you know me well lol! It'd probably smash a headlight on the way too!

As for the 't' word driving the van, pretty sure the stones he flung off also damaged the front of my bonnet and bumper

Hoping it will crack on its own so i can plead innocence and say it just happened! With the cold weather it has more chance to go, I have no long journeys planned either so the screen will be heating up and cooling down more often too!
