Which also means that you've effectively lost your car I guess as you can't legally move it even to a garage to get it put right?

i guess they would take it and you would have to collect it on a trailer and then get it MOT'd

Book an MOT before you go and collect as your legally allowed to drive an unmot'd car on the road aslong as your going to a prebooked MOT

What Adam said.

They will allow you to ring around MoT stations, and if you get it booked in the same day, you can drive it there.

Sadly, it will fail as we know, and they will have to carry out the repairs as you can't drive it away.
