In my opinion it's a lot more dignified (if that word can be used to describe an !) and feels like it's been built to a higher standard with more thought gone into it. The facelift ones (08 onwards) certainly have a better interior, although I myself prefer the second wave of the pre-facelifts (07/57 reg).

Review of my focus http://www.fordfiestast.co.uk/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=154285&an=0&page=114#154285The fiesta is better on the twisties. The focus is still good but you can feel the extra weight. It's more of a gt type car. Great for long distance driving as it's so comfortable but if your in the mood it's still great fun on a twisty road. For me the focus is the perfect car. Quick, refined, big enough (11&14yr kids) and a nice place to sit. Just wish it didn't have a drink problem. The fiesta is a bit more rough around the edges in terms of comfort and build quality but i'd still hapliy go back to the fiesta if i couldn't afford the focus.

my type of car will always be small fast N/A hatchback
the focus is a lot bigger and smoother drive, better on a fuel on a long motorway run than the fiesta.
power to weight it is a bit sluggish, but is very easy to get a lot of power, bigger intercooler, panel filter and a map will see 270bhp and then a full exhaust your on 300bhp no problem
cornering can be made a lot better with bilsteins or eibachs but it will never feel gokart like the fiesta
as far as a fun weekend car goes, i would choose the fiesta over a focus, but as a commuter and motorway traveller i would choose a focus

i used to get about 33-35mpg on my old drive to work 35miles each way and then in katies focus even with a decat got 35-38mpg if i was to buy a focus i would buy an RS, its suspension is a much better setup, better brakes but then i would want an ST engine in it with MR290

I test drove a focus once, it felt like it was in a different league. Only reason I didn't swap is because it was older and had a higher mileage than my fiesta has.

I had a pretty decent battle with one on the ring which was lowered, i still passed him but it took me until the second carousel, it handled a lot better than i expected and i could no way keep up on the straights, he slowed me down quite abit on the technical part thought i dont think he liked the fact i was more nimble and could carry more speed, i put it down to his lack of confidence! had my pants pulled down by one later that day though even on the corners - crazy germans (didn't look standard, huge intercooler, part of the rs lot that were there)! imo i'd have one just for the grunt you will have after a remap
