Good thread this.

Dan, you say that the Focus is actually better on longer motorway drives (on fuel) and I can actually believe that as my girlfriend's dad managed to do 32mpg @ 80mph for 2 hours with the air con on in a Volvo (c?)70 (same engine as focus). Until I actually witnessed this it was the main thing putting me off getting a Focus as I have to drive 150 miles to my girlfriend's house lol. Interesting

i used to get about 33-35mpg on my old drive to work 35miles each way and then in katies focus even with a decat got 35-38mpg

if i was to buy a focus i would buy an RS, its suspension is a much better setup, better brakes but then i would want an ST engine in it with MR290

I test drove a focus once, it felt like it was in a different league. Only reason I didn't swap is because it was older and had a higher mileage than my fiesta has.

I love my other half's Focus ST, but feel a bit of a nit driving it. I'm only 5'2, so I'm a bit swamped by the sheer size of the thing! As a family car though, you can't fault the amount of room that's available.

The Focus is far more comfortable than the Fiesta too, but for its size, it's still very agile. Performance wise, standard they're ok, but stick bluefin or dreamscience on it, and upgrade the intercooler to an Airtec and you'll notice a significant difference as it's so much easier to tune a turbo'd engine than an NA. The mpg can be reasonable if you can resist the temptation to make the turbo scream. I think Dal's average is about 31mpg

I had a pretty decent battle with one on the ring which was lowered, i still passed him but it took me until the second carousel, it handled a lot better than i expected and i could no way keep up on the straights, he slowed me down quite abit on the technical part thought i dont think he liked the fact i was more nimble and could carry more speed, i put it down to his lack of confidence!

had my pants pulled down by one later that day though even on the corners - crazy germans (didn't look standard, huge intercooler, part of the rs lot that were there)!

imo i'd have one just for the grunt you will have after a remap
