So;

I've decided money permitting I want to go down the route of turbo charging instead of Supercharging, I've not created this as an argument as to why, I just want a turbo and I want help discussing what I would need to do in order to allow fitment of one...

I'm not 100% mechanically minded but I know the ins and outs, perhaps not enough to fit or design a system without help but thats what you guys are for I'd certainly like to plan it and at least make a parts list of what I'd need to gather so I know practically what I need to save up to do so.

1) First of all I'd need to fabricate a new exhaust manifold and adapt the inlet to allow for a turbo. What would this invoke I.E. can someone explain to me what adaptations I would need to build my uncles a welder by trade so I'm sure we could conjour something up I just need to know what!
2) Alter the compression ratio of the engine to what would be ideally 7.5:1, so this would be some low compression forged pistons, what is the standard compression ratio of the engine and how difficult is it to alter. What repercussions would this have?
3) Are the standard cams strong enough to withstand a pressurised induction or would these too need to be altered? If I bought the uprated ones designed for a supercharger would this give me the overlap and duration I need?

I know that doesn't begin to cover it but can someone please give me a detailed and in depth presentation of everything I would need to do and consider so I can get a ball park figure of what I need to start buying. I don't know alot about cars but I'm a very fast learner and I need some help!

Cheeeeeeeers,
Jamie

What would this invoke I.E. can someone explain to me what adaptations I would need to build my uncles a welder by trade so I'm sure we could conjour something up I just need to know what! - Si has Made one, talk to him!

2) Alter the compression ratio of the engine to what would be ideally 7.5:1, so this would be some low compression forged pistons, what is the standard compression ratio of the engine and how difficult is it to alter. What repercussions would this have? - You will need low compression pistons - Si is the man again or jamsport

3) Are the standard cams strong enough to withstand a pressurised induction or would these too need to be altered? If I bought the uprated ones designed for a supercharger would this give me the overlap and duration I need? - If your going to turbo charge, spend the money and change the cams too

Either, talk to Si, or give Jamsport aload of cash and tell them to sort it.

Be warned though, most people who seem to force indcut their fiestas tend to sell up within 6 months...

That's what I was thinking and as far as I'm aware they pretty much wrote the book on big power for the fiesta?

erm, yeah but if you want it to be reliable there is a lot more to do than originally stated normally

What sort of things are we looking at to make it reliable?

What am I talking here for a complete build £3000-£4000? If it's anymore it would be money spent towards a new car as a pose to doing anymore with this because it's money you'd never get back...

well jamsport sell a bolt on supercharger kit for £3500ish

with cams full exhaust and map you will see about 300bhp

to make it reliable you really need to fully forge your engine and have the MTX75 gearbox with quaife LSD and uprated clutch probably another £3000 on top with the labour

Lmao your not wrong mate,

So either way if you want the absolute soundest and most reliable parts your looking 7000 weather your supercharge or turbo charge.

It's interesting, it would take me along time to save up that much money however it's not all stuff that has to be bought in one go I suppose, strengthen the engine before you consider a supercharger and you'll be laughing.

Definitely food for thought, perhaps later on down the line. What mileage are these engines good for if used under normal conditions for an old boy with a heavy foot? 100-120k? If I rebuilt the engine with all these forged pistons, con rods, cams etc... will it be like new and I'd expect another 100-120k out the car or is it still dead money and the engine will be nearing the end of its life?

i look at the guy in the RS up till about 60mph with a look on his face of "just f off" when im still next to him

the turbo i think is about 250bhp and about the same torque so isnt pushing the car that much, i would talk to them and find out whats involved, easiest way to find out what you walking into
