I'm 25 miles from home and my brakes have all of a sudden started making a really really loud grinding noise, and when I take my foot off the brake the noise keeps going, so loud that everyone is actually looking at me! Well embarrassing, but does anyone know what this could be or if it's even safe to drive home? I had mot not long ago and they didn't mention anything about my brakes,

could the disc be too warped and grinding on caliper? does it feel like its still braking even with your foot off the brake pedal?

Pad surface may have fell of. Happens if a caliper seizes and it gets hot

really doesn't sound good hun, you got RAC/AA?? i wouldn't drive on that if i were you, just in case you NEED to brake hard!! Not worth the risk

Front or rear noise?

Could also be a wheel bearing

From the front, my mum bless her just asked some random man in tesco if he could have a look, he's jacking it up and having a look now,

Not being funny but check that all the wheel nuts are tight. Have had a member on here before who's wheel nuts were left loose after a service.

The guy has just told me its brake disc and pad that needs changing, he said its rubbing metal to metal now I got to drive it home, making my mum drive it lol

Could be a Caliper sticking on and worn the pads down to metal hence grinding noise

brake pads are always touching, close enough to make a noise but never enough to wear pads out quick enough...

hence the constant noise.

Make sure your brake piatons aren't jammed. Common problem with fiesta's.
Send a picture of your discs and brake pads. So we can see.
