Had the car go in to the Ford Dealer on Fri to have the high reving and poor starting problems fixed.Just to say those who has not had the ECU upgrade get in touch with your dealer to get it done.It completely solves the problems as stated above but it seems to make the engine alot smoother, the throttle response is almost instant as well and i'm almost certain the fuel ecomony has increased as i'm through half a tank and it's on 200 miles !I don't know if this applies to the facelift ST because you would think Ford would have ironed out all the niggly faults !!

Nope, your comments mirror exactly what i said after my service the other week. The car now starts like a new car should, it feels so much smoother too and its pretty much fixed the revving problem! Go get the update

Does the update cost? or is it covered by the warranty? i had my car about 2 days and it took me about 7 seconds to start twice. is that the ECU or some thing else?

Yea it is covered by the three year warranty.Just tell the dealer about the problem then they will sort it.This starting and high reving when cold is very common on ST's it just needs the ECU updating.

Yeah tell the dealer you are having starting problems and the revving thing. The bloke on the phone said its a very common problem and is fixed with the update of the ECU, and it was. It actually says on the invoice fixed warranty problem!

I had this done on Saturday but I don't know what they did because I got no paper-work. They did'nt charge me so I suppose it must have been done under warrenty. When I got back I was told they needed more time because they were re-calabrating the reving sensor (??) so I dont know if they actually updated the ECU or just messed about with the sensor settings. I suppose it seems a bit smoother and the reving before stopping has ceased. I can't say i've noticed any improvement on fuel consumption but I will have to give it a few weeks because maybe the ECU has to learn octane levels etc. I haven't had a starting problem yet but time will tell if this is still an issue.

I cant say i've noticed any improvement with the fuel economy either but then i've only been through one tank.

Altho i just noticed i have done 240 miles and i still have a 1 bar and the two mini ones left! I never have that usually and unless that bar is just about to go then that really is a difference.

I've had a slight improvement on fuel consumption it has done a extra 20 miles on a full tank.

Looks like I have the same problem. I have a facelift, but tickover is about 1200 revs and sometimes it taks ages to start. I only noticed when driving my wife's KA, as that starts immediately.

I would say mine idles a bit higher (over a 1000) from cold, dont think it used to idle that high before i had the update. But to be honest i'd rather have that than the starting problem.

I'm maybe seeing a very slight improvement on fuel economy which is probably another 10 miles. The car has not failed to start yet but sometimes takes a while to fire up on its own.

Well ring up the service department and say to them. When i booked mine in for its first service at the end of the call he asked if there were any problems that needed to be looked at and i said well it has a weird revving problem that revs up when you press down the clutch after accelerating. He instantly knew what i was on about and said its a common ford problem and they would just update the ECU and it should sort it out. So try the same thing, and the bloke on the phone was really really nice.
