Dal promised his MD that he (read we) would clean his Mercedes so finally got around to it this weekend.

Before:

General swirlage:

Starting to polish:

Put some tape over the bonnet and polished either side with different combinations of polish / pad to see which level of cut was needed then removed the tape. Quite a difference!

Getting there:

Finished car:

6.2L V8 goodness:

And to bed:

Products used:

Hose!
2 x Bucket (with gritguard)
Dodo juice Supernatural shampoo
Valet Pro - Bilberry Wheel Cleaner
Bilt Hamber - Auto Clay
Autosol metal polish
DAS Pro6 Dual Action machine polisher
Menzerna Power Finish PF2300 (PO85RD 3.02)
Menzerna Final Finish PO85RD
Menzerna Cutting and polishing pads
Poorboys black hole polish
Poorboys Polish w/ Sealant
Collinite 476 wax
Autoglym Leather cleaner
Autoglym Leather conditioner
Auto Finesse Revive trim restorer

About 20 supersoft microfibre cloths
About 4 huge fluffy drying towels
Dodo Juice Supernatural Plush Microfibre Applicator Pads
'Agitating' brushes (a toothbrush for the Autosol, and a paintbrush to get in with the Auto Finesse Revive)

We were both knackered after spending approximately 16 hours over 2 days doing it! We got to stay at the MD's flat Saturday night, and took the car for a (very) quick blast down the road and back before we started!

It is a lovely car, and bloody quick! It needs to be used more regularly than it is though - it sat outside and didn't move for about 4 months over the coldest part of the year. When the MD came to move it into storage, the second (!) battery was flat. This second battery powers everything electrical including the the gearbox, so it was in limp mode and wouldn't go anywhere. The car needs to be driven for the main battery to charge the second... trust people with money to not know how to treat things!

I'd rather just have one battery, 5 or 6 gears and drive the thing!

He's really not a car person. It's expensive and it looks good, and that's all he cares about. He doesn't even know what half the settings and buttons do, and while we were cleaning it, I found a set of keys wedged in the depths of the passenger seat: 3 or 4 keys, fob for the office alarm, and a USB stick. Now this USB stick looked a bit scuffed up and tacky, but turns out it's a £5k Dunhill special edition USB stick that's covered in black diamonds. The guy's response on Dal saying I found it? "Oh, I wondered where that had gone."

More money than sense...

Certainly sounds it!

But when you have enough money to waste practicality and sense is replaced by trial and error as you can afford to do it!

Very nice detail though but those swirls to look at gives me the same feeling when someone claws their nails down a chalk board.
