last may year on my way home from snetterton i was cruising home and went to go to overtake a lorry and my car went into limp mode and the code on the ECU was "thottle position sensor error"

in july i did over 1k miles to ring ring and back didnt see it again till i got onto the M25 on the way home, typically where they had desided to remove the hard shoulder and i had to stop in hatchings on a slip road to turn it off and on again, was a rather scary moment at rush hour

i cleaned the throttle body and didnt see it again, did ford fair and then a trackday at bedford and in the afternoon i got the error again, turned it off and on and i havent seen it since, until yesterday...

it came up mid afternoon and just kept coming back so i just continued the trackday with the error cause i wasnt going to let it ruin my day, the car drove just the same with the error flashing on the dash so i thought it was still working but just couldnt work it out...

anyway i came in and turned off and on and it would go then i would last 10 laps then it would come back up so it wasnt too bad...

but then, Katie took the car out in the afternoon and was having lotsa fun, i was still in the pits and thought i havent seen her go past in ages, i hope she hasnt crashed... 2 mins later what do i see!? Katie being towed off the track by a marshall!

however many times you turned the car on and off it wouldnt run again and the ecu had a fault code list 8 long, all to do with the throttle.

i took the throttle body off the car and took it apart cleaned it and then used contact cleaner to clean the sensor out and now it got me home and its not bought the error up again, so its a waiting game i guess, to see if it will come up again

Odd problem. It's not like the TB or sensor on the ST is in a position to accumulate much dirt...compared to other vehicles I've owned.
I had a similarish problem last week. I really booted it down the motorway from Manchester and the engine cut out. Don't usually speed, cant afford it lol, but at 04.20 in the morning there's little harm in it. Got down to appx 60mph and I switched the ignition off and restarted - fine. Not happened since.
I suspected there wasn't enough airflow through the filter and it starved the engine, though now you mention this I think I'll give the TPS a clean.

Question: what do you use to read the ODB? I lent my Vx one to a friend and never got it back.

It is likely to be between the throttle body or throttle pedal.

If try a new pedal as its always appearing at a point where your nailing it

I use a bluetooth obd connector to my phone using an app, only cost me a tenner with buing the whole lot, its on android.

the throttle position sensor is inside the throttle body, it looked really clean but sprayed contact cleaner in it anyway

It would really worry me if that was happening, i would get it into a garage before you get a proper limp mode and get turn it off.

It went into proper limp mode on track, I know what the problem is but buying a new trottle body is out of the question I refuse to let ford rip me off for one when this one cast me 60 brand new from them 4 years ago
