I've been having a bit of trouble with the gear shift recently, especially when trying to engage reverse gear. Has anybody else experienced this? What was the cause and how did you resolve the issue?

The linkage was replaced when I first bought the car (Dec '12) and it has been 'lubricated' by the dealer when it went in to have the brakes done (April '13) but still, the problem persists.

Any ideas?

I have the problem and so does my friend in hers. Common on Fords, not just ST's

Hold the gear lever on the way to reverse and lift the clutch, you'll feel it locate into reverse through the stick

I do a mix of either into 1st and then reverse or hold the gearstick gently as if i'm trying to go into reverse and then lift the clutch slowly until it drops in.

Make sure you're stationary too, if you're still rolling fowards a bit you're likely to get grinding noises/it not engaging.
