Yeah it does look good! Pretty sure Dan has one on the side now. I'll have to ask him where he got a smaller plate from

Are there any regulations on the size/placement of the front number plate?

I think its the size of the letters rather than the whole plate.

As Rob pointed out, the Evo has the plate mounted to the side...

As you can see it's standard length. I have always assumed that anything smaller than this is illegal. Also cars registered after a certain date (probably 1973) needs to have reflective plates. So you couldn't put a vinyl on unless it was reflective vinyl Lee. Although i've seen plenty of MX-5s with vinyl plates on the bonnet which haven't been reflective. I guess it's more a case of discretion of the policeman pulling you over. I see so many slammed cars driving around with numberplates on the top of the dashboard and i'm pretty certain that can't be legal, yet they seem happy enough to be driving around like that

From the Government

Your number plates should:

be made from a reflective material
display black characters on a white background (front plate)
display black characters on a yellow background (rear plate)
not have a background pattern
Characters on a number plate can be 3D.

There's also a leaflet , summary:

characters on number plates purchased from
1 September 2001, will need to meet the following
specifications.
n Character height 79mm
n Character width (except the figure 1 or letter I) 50mm
n Character stroke 14mm
n Space between characters 11mm
n Space between groups 33mm
n Top, bottom and side margins (minimum) 11mm
n Vertical space between groups 19mm

As long as the letters and the font are UK standard then the plate itself can be smaller

i got a small plate made as i have less letters in the plate, there has to be 11mm of plate round the letters, theres no regulation on the size of the plate only, letter sizes, spacing and font

not had any problems with the rozzers with these

i didnt like it to the side so it is now in the middle using velcro tape
