Just got the ST back up to Leeds from Bristol, reset all the trip computer functions, and thought as I can't quite release the ST's full potential yet, I'd see what sort of economy I could get on the ride. It was 214 miles door to door, and I averaged an awesome 43.9mpg!!! Most of the ride was at about 60mph, but I did open her up a little just to see what 90mph felt like a couple of times!
I'm well impressed with the economy, it was a little bit of 'granny' driving, but still good fun. This was running on Shell V-Power, with the AC on for about 20mins when it got a bit hot, and I've still got just under half a tank left!

Good going. Supposedly, the fuel economy gets better after the first few thousand miles!

'Supposedly' lol

I usually have to think about filling up when I get to 214 miles!

The more miles you do, the more run in it is, the more you floor it everywhere, the more petrol you use.

I only got 24miles on my first bar this week (phase 1). Oh dear. Maybe I should fit a rev limiter at 3500rpm, that would save me petrol.

My K&N doesn't start to roar until 3k so I 'need' to go high in the rev range!

My problem is, I do a 30-50mph 5 minute trip, then stop for 2 mins.
then another 30-50mph trip for another 5 mins, then a 50-100mph trip for about 2 minutes. I do this 5 days a week so my consumption rarely exceeds 30mpg.

But then, if I wanted to do 50mpg, I wouldn't have bought an ST.
I wanted to go everywhere in a nice car, quickly, hence the ST.

I'm sure when its run in I'll struggle to get 38mpg, just cos I'll be wearing my lead boots then.

I'd give my right foot to get 38 mpg

Maybe I shouldn't have said that.

* Looks up invalid cars on parkers.co.uk. Oh my god, they do 38mpg!!

Agreed.

Like you've just said, and has been said many times before, you don't buy an for the fuel economy.
