Just to make the engine bay look a bit better as the rocker cover lets it down
Would prefer to paint it myself, but might have it powdercoated for a better and longer lasting finish.

I've already got a rattle can of performance blue and clear so spraying it wouldn't cost me anything. Don't think temperature will be a problem for the paint as the rocker cover doesn't get that hot and the bodywork itself gets pretty hot on a sunny day.

Has anyone had theirs powdercoated and how much was it?
How do you get the cam cover off? Just remove the HT leads and take off a few bolts?
Not sure about those cables/hoses going over the top of the engine, whether they will get in the way.

Spraying is your best bet, but a couple of people on here have had theirs done ( by a popular paint company which sells stuff on various forums/pages/shows ) and have cracked due to the heat. Remember that your engine is running up at 90deg+ and knowing that your paint can handle it.

Worth looking into a heat resistant paint that can also expand due to the plastic nature of the part.

Yeah I think they can powder coat plastic, a number of powdercoaters say so on their websites

Ideally if spraying it I'd use heat resistant paint but I'd prefer perforance blue and I haven't looked into how easy or costly it is to get custom colours made.

don't powder coat it have you seen what heat from the brakes does to powder coated wheels.

You're going to need VHT paint. You can't really powdercoat plastic properly - not only can you not pass the electrical current through it, you can't really bake it at the temperatures required either or it'll melt!

I would be inclined to simply leave it and clean it. Black looks more subtle and cleaner in the long run than coloured shiny plastic under the bonnet. But then that's just me lol

I just think it looks a bit rubbish as it is.

I assumed to powder coat it you needed a charge, not current, and you can get a static charge on plastic. Even so, and even if it didn't melt I guess distortion would be an issue and it might not seal properly afterwards

Not sure what to do now Gloss black VHT paint might look okay.

I like the carbon fibre cosworth covers but they're about £200 which is too much for a pureley cosmetic item that won't even be seen.

Kenny, I have powder coated wheels, never had any issues

maybe more with the high powered cars then, that bake the disks I know as my rs wheels where powder coated and went funny with the heat,also that's why the focus guys stay away from powder coating there's,

anyways what about hydro dipping,i have never seen them crack etc and loads of the rs st guys have it done with no problems.im getting mine down next year I hope

Hydro dipping sounds like the way forward, I'll have to look into it

Change it for a metal Mondeo unit. They look tidier then can be powder coated
