Anyone had this done? What are the rough costs for the screen and fitting?
I could ask the local ford but I know they'll be at the high end so wanted to ask around first.

Windscreen has loads of little stone chips and light scratches, but the big problem is the heater elements have stopped working except on a few strips and winter's on the way.

Why do the heating elements fail? Could it be corrosion at the connections perhaps? When I bought the car they all worked, but each year it gets less and less.

From memory, I think when people have purchased a new heated screen it costs around £200 plus fitting. Obviously if one of the stone chips develops into a crack you can claim off your insurance and then it'll be quite a bit cheaper.

I think my excess is £80 for a new windscreen. Just remember if yours has the rain sensor it'll be even more expensive than a standard item if you go and have it done yourself!

£200 in parts isn't too bad at all. happy

Not sure if I'd want to claim on my insurance in case it puts up the premium or negates my no claims.
There's loads of chips but they're all quite minor so little chance of cracking.

I don't have the rain sensor... thankfully

The heater strips fail literally because the heater wires are that small that they break. Always have done since ford starting using the idea

Best thing too do with you insurance is check the policy that they email you. It's normally on it. I was told that 1 windscreen claim doesn't count as your normal accident claim, but again that can change from company to company

Got quoted £350 just for the screen not including fitting... and they get someone in to fit the screen anyway so might as well get it done mobile.

Insurance excess is £100, no mention of if it affects the NCB or not, will have to ring them to check.

With Admiral it doesn't affect NCD but you will have to include it as a claim when renewing / changing insurance.
