I'm going to change the speedo/rev counter/fuel/temp gauges on my 2006 facelift fiesta ST because they are resetting the trip meter every time I turn off the ignition. Was told it could be a clock pod problem.
Do I have to change the ecu and lockset for them to work correctly?
or can I change just the full instrument panel on it's own??
John.

My understanding is that you can change the whole instrument panel, however the car won't start as it's all tied in with the immobiliser. If you fit the panel yourself, you'd then need to get the car to Ford to programme it correctly and also set the correct mileage on the odometer, for which I wouldn't expect it to be more than an hours labour to do.

Thanks Chris. If I get the Ecu, Door Locks And Instrument panel, would it be a straight swap over or will it all need programing to the car?

I'm pretty sure they'd all need to be programmed to link the locks, clocks and immobiliser (which is within the ecu) together.

Thanks Chris. I will buy the new instrument panel and take it to Ford for programming.

Yep, the clocks are tied in to the ECU, which is tied in to the PATS immobilizer.

If you grab replacement clocks, ECU, and key chips from the same car, then it's a straight swap. Locks aren't part of the system, but the security chip in the key is.

If you just replace the clocks Ford should be able to reprogram them to match your ECU, though there might be a higher charge as I don't think it's quite as simple as programming a 'blank' cluster.

I will only be changing the mileage through a Ford dealer to correct the mileage on a brand new instrument cluster so that the mileage is exactly the same as my original instrument cluster, which will be left in the car for Ford. Mileage is recorded on the Mot certificate for the past 5 years which is also available from DVLA Swansea.
Only changing my instrument panel as the original instrument panel is fecked.
