Hi guys, my first post and unfortunately I've had the wind knocked out my sails regards 215 insurance. I'm due to pick up a 1 year old ST3 in molten orange which I'm rather excited about but astonished that the only quote I could get so far is double the amount of a standard st. I'm a ripe old age of 52 and don't understand the problem. I even had 2 company's refuse me. What exactly am a meant to say to the insurance regards the upgrade? My understanding is it's an engine re map, pushing the bhp to 215, an air filter and air box. When they ask what the original bhp is they almost gasp and tell me that's quite an increase.

I fully understand this may have been discussed before but if any one could give me some up to date advice I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks Rob.

go with companies that specialize in modded cars, not everyday general companies.

greenlight, Adrian Flux, Chris Knott

I'm with adrian flux am sure I can get it much cheaper elsewhere but been easy to deal with, mods and renewals and end of day it's the insurance tax that is now hammering us added by our government, think this year it peaks at it's highest percentage.

A few insurance company's so far have asked me the modified bhp against the stock bhp. I've been saying 180 bhp in stock form and obviously 215 bhp after the mod to which they say ooooh that's a big percentage increase. I'm just wondering if the 180 stock figure is technically right due to this over boost thingy going on which I don't understand. I want to be legit so what exactly are the figures I should be saying?

its complicated and beyond me, relates to torque moreso than bhp allowing turbo short periods of extra boost, regardless the max bhp is 180 or 215 for these cars.

Try Sky Car insurance. I am getting MP215 and cat back exhaust for under £450.

200bhp on over boost 215 kit shouldn't be that much extra on the insurance really

When I had my 215 last year my insurance went from £400 to £500 a year. I insured with Esure who had the 215 on their system. The kit does push it up but it shouldn't be by how much you are quoting. That's pretty crazy!

Let us know how you got on.

If you insure it as an MP215 rather than as a modified ST it might not be as high? I believe the ABI code for an MP215 ST-3 is 18503399

And yes, it's an increase from 200bhp to 215PS (212bhp), so about 12 horsepower not 35. That's 6% versus 19% increase so could be part of the reason.

Definitely a very good point. My insurance ask for %increases rather than anything else if they cannot find the code.
