Hi all, looking for some advice on linking my engine to a decent gearbox for my kitcar project, which is basically a transverse mid engined caterham type car using a duratec from a mk6. I didn't get the standard gearbox because I understand they don't take too much power. (the engine will be approx 300-320bhp).

I do have a Mazda 3 mps box which I understand has the same bellhousing pattern as the ford box, though the clutch arrangement is different.

The question is what do I neeed to do with the clutch and flywheel to make the Mazda box work (I can sort the gear linkage) and will the offside driveshaft bolt on ok?

Are there any other cost effective alternatives that I could consider if the mazda box isn't a goer?

Cheers all

the gearbox that most people use with the fiesta ST is the MTX75 from the focus, i would be interested to see how you get on with the mazda box, is it a 5 speed?

Yep, the attraction is the standard slipper along with the ability to take 300bhp as standard according to the Mazda boys, the flywheel has a different bolt pattern though and I haven't a clue what to do with the clutch

Hi guys,

Also interested about this conversion to the mazda gearbox. Any updates on this thread?
Regarding the Mtx gearbox - is it a 5 or 6 speed? Any other relevant info that I should account for when fitting?

Thx!

Hi, I’m new member and I’ve been searching about for Mtx75 conversion for the st 150. I’ve got a Mtx 75 form a 2.0 Mondeo mk3 52 plate, and can’t find any threads on fitting it. I’ve seen the photos from SC developments, do i still use the st clutch, drive shifts etc any advice would be good thanks

Ford Puma 1.6-7 use the same type gearbox with far better ratios, not sure how long it will hold though..
