last week Ford put a new track rod end on the front driver side, I then noticed the steering wheel was not fully straight when driving in a straight line, out enough to bug me, perhaps at 29mins past O'Clock. Took it back this morning and then said would track it for free even though I never originally asked for tracking although sounded like they should have advised me it could affect tracking.
So just collected the car again and if anything it's now worse and about 28mins past O'Clock, phoned them straight back and they said they have also put a new track rod end on the other side (probably thinking same as me), did't get far with them other than to come back in morning and speak to the mechanic who did it and show him !
They don't seem to know what to do ?
As far as I know they should lock the steering in place when doing a track rod end and tracking ????
Any ideas anyone, tommorrow I might ask them to replace both again incase wrong ones on, dunno...... OR are they just not doing the tracking correctly, it drives fine and does not wander or pull, dead straight and no hands again all fine just steering wheel not straight.

Oh dear, basic stuff. I dread to think what goes on when they do things like a head gasket replacement.

I think if they set the steering wheel central and then do the tracking it'll be right. If they cant manage that I'd go somewhere else for tracking like an ATS or kwik fit although they can be a bit of a gamble too sometimes although the ones I've been to were very good.

back this morning, mechanic came out to speak to me and he works on my car every year, showed him the steering wheel position as it defaulted to off centre where I parked it straight and he said yes needs tracking again, so did it, 2nd mechanic re-checked his work, it was out further again, probably because they fitted the other rod end on other side. They said drive it now and we will wait and come back, so I did and it's almost spot on now, just a tad out not enough to bug me or for them to bother doing more tracking on it so happy with that and I got both ends done and one for free ! Been on motorway today nice bit of smooth tarmac, car drives spot on no drift or pulling steering position fine so happy days. No smoke from my pads on motorway !........think there wearing in a bit, I'll keep checking them after each drive and hopefully someday the discs won't be red hot....hehehe car freewheeling down my drive ok so might just be dragging a little enough to build heat up but I will keep eye on them for safety.

Good result, got there in the end.
Would have thought tracking was an automatic thing to check after a track rod end change
