If you have had an aftermarket exhaust system fitted id like to know the following things!

1) What make and how loud is it?

2) What did your dealer say about it effecting your warrenty?

Cheers

Neil

1) Simpson Race Exhausts. 96db.

2) They hate it and refused to work on it when my engine management light came on. Went to a dealership where a friend works.

1) Milltek Cat Back, louder than standard but not too loud

2) Never needed to do anything on warrenty but also have a friend who works for a dealership.

A cat back exhaust will not affect your warrenty as it's not different from fitting a cheaper standard make when your standard one goes.
There's a law about servicable parts affecting manufacturer's warranties that was caused by someone in the USA suing about it. If they don't offer service parts free of charge they can't complain as it's monopolising.
It's only if you alter the vehicles spec that it can cause a problem.
This goes for panel filters as well.

I agree with Dave a cat back system should not affect the warranty cos is doesn't affect the engine !

No really... I'm not kidding or making it up they said that any over revving problems I was having, non starting problems was because of my cat back and it was all my problem.

A lot (I'm not saying all) dealerships are VERY wriggly about warranty work and if they can find a way out they will. I have heard from many ST owners who say dealerships refuse to touch their cars with even the smallest of mods (e.g. induction kit & cat back)

(ok so this isnt an ST story but it is a warranty one!) For example... my mk5's fuel filler neck went after I'd had it about a year and it was replaced under warranty BUT they still tried to wriggle out saying it was my fault because I...wait for it... put too much petrol in my car...

not got one yet but i did go to the dealership and ask them about warranty and they said they;d ignore it unless something came up that was the exhausts fault

Thanks for all your replies.

For the people that said a cat back system doesnt effect your engine, Im afraid you maybe be wrong. This is due the the fact that changing the back box can actually change the "back pressure", which is then making the engine perform differently. So this is where they can get out of warrenty work!!

Thing is im in such an annoying situation. I really want a cat back system but dont want it shattering windows but also want my warrenty!!! Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!
