In next weeks Autocar there is a group test where the ST is aganist the Peugeot 206 GT and the new Mini Cooper should be interesting ! Out on Tuesday.

Sounds good, The new cooper? Cant say as I am too keen on the 207. I think it will be close between the st and mini for handling.

the Mini and the 207 use the same engine except the mini have more boots than the 207, they both have turbo compare to the St with N/a engine!

Have to make sure i pop out and buy it as i looked at the 207 GT before i ordered the ST and wasn't that impressed with it and what you got for the money was not worth it.

I actually love pugs, but annoyed off with crappy french build quality on my current 306.... tacho starting to mis read, electric window failure, radio display dead, no buttons on radio work..... thank god the ST arrives in 8 days!

Same here always drove pug's myself but live by factory and loose to much on them worth nowt in part ex. Yeah they r bringin the 207 gti out read on net and mags that its goin to be turbo'd as well. Went to put name down for one and salesman told me that it's in competition with the new Clio 197 he told me its goin to have a V6 in it and around 250bhp but find this extremely hard to believe

there going to be 3 version of 207 with the turbo engine, 1 with 150BHP, 2 with around 180BHP similar to the CooperS and 3 with around 210 BHP to beat the Clio 197! I don't no if they going to do a 3Rd version of the V6 but I heard that Renault going to be a car that reflect there win in F1 therefore want to do a fast car!

If it's just the Cooper they are comparing the ST with the ST should come out top on performance

Handling though im not sure (MINI Owner myself here)

I spent a lot of time deciding what car to get and went for the ST based upon cost:performance ratio. Fact is that the ST is slightly slower round the track than the cooper s, but it cost 10.5K compared to over £15k. The mini IMO is not £4.5k better and it doesn't have side stripes Don't know what discounts can be got with the Pug, but mini would not budge on price for me on the cooper

If they're comparing against the cooper, then the ST should come out trumps.

Totally agree with steve1981 on purchasing reasons, thing is they will value the ST at 13500 plus extras and say its not worth it.
this is preaching to the converted but you tell me where you can get so much performance car for £11000, with reliability and space etc.
I have owned a 206 GTi, after 3 years of constant warranty work I had a decent car.

It's the Cooper and not the Cooper S they're testing it against then? I know the Cooper is more similar in price, but it's not the performance Mini like the ST is for the Fiesta. The Mini's bound to win as car mags love the Mini, pretty much because they've got good residuals!
