Hi there.....just wondering about the difference between these to cars..i currently own a 1.7 puma but seriously considering trading in for an ST. Anyone drivin both cars and can tell me wot i will get extra that i dont get from my puma? Puma is quick and with great handling...would like to think ST can do this and more....?

Have never driven the Puma mate, sorry but I've always liked them and was very close to buying one once. The FRP is still very high on my wish-list and I might still try and go for one if I can afford it in the future.

I think possibly Dekris swopped his Puma for an ST so he might be able to tell you more. Obviously there's only about a second difference 0-60 and handling will be similar. Looking around the car is a bit easier in the fiesta because you only get those tiny triangle windows at the back on the Puma but it's still difficult to judge where the rear of the car is. The fiesta is a stiffer ride and is a lot higher than the Puma. The amount of gadgets and stuff in the Fiesta will depend on options you get and in comparison to the Puma there’s only really powerfold mirrors, sunroof, climate control and bluetooth that’s different from Puma options. We have a Puma Thunder edition which has alloys, leather seats, heated front screen, 6-disc autochanger and puma mats so its equipped similar to my ST. The Puma's are still quite sought after and are still worth a bit and still look good. Its a difficult decision!

I had a Puma 1.7 courtesy car for a couple of weeks 2 or 3 years ago.

All i can say is that i loved it!

At the time i had a Fiesta 1.25 that had to go back to the garage with a faulty steering thingymajig .

The first thing i liked about the Puma was when i first got in it. With the seats rapped around me, the position of the gear stick, easy controls to hand and lower to the ground made me think i was in a proper sports car .

The performance was outstanding...very quick, and holds the road very well. Being a courtesy car i obviously gave it some stick .
But as allready said, the rear view when reversing is cr*p.

To sum up the difference is really hard.

From my experience of putting them both through their paces, i think the has the edge....but that's only just !
My reason for choosing the is that it's an all rounder, looks,feel,handling,speed- 40-90.

Whereas the Puma..No real looks,has the feel and definitely handling, but does'nt have the mid range and top end.

But that's only my opinion. .

I would say that the Puma is a much better car than the ST.
The engine, although being a 1.7 instead of a 2.0 in the ST is a far better engine.
I wouldn't swap a Puma 1.7 for a Fiesta ST. The handling is no better than a Puma, the brakes are better but the suspension is way too hard compared to the Puma.

I park next to a Puma in work sometimes and my knocks spots of it lookswise, although the Puma is a decent looking car. I can't really comment on the handling as i've never driven one, but i've heard they can be in bad condition second hand, even if they are only a few years old, with rusting problems etc. A girl i work with was on the verge of buying one, was after one for ages, but after she test drove one she left it well alone.

i read somewhere that the puma got voted the biggest waste of money in a car... can't remember where though soz!

I like the puma, but never drive one. A friend of mine had a test drive in it when it came out and he very much like it! heard in the press that it was a good good, not to expensive, was the best handling car in its class when it came out, theyre also easy to tuned up!

I totally agree with SI ST, i had a 1.7 and loved it. But the ST is a better car for common use, and has a better handling then the Puma in my opinion.
I disagree with Dave T ST, the suspension is hard, but it handles bumps better then the Puma.

If you like to buy a ST because it's faster, or for better handling, don't.
If you like him for the looks, space inside, and be more "undercover", do!

Jonny why don't you get an FRP... You can probably pick up a good one for less money than a new ST...

The puma was voted car of yr way bk when, so theres is no dout it is a great coupe....some would say a class above any fiesta. But this is my prob, i dont want to feel like ive downgraded in buying an ST...and think it is a great little car but probably does lack the feel and character of a puma. My seach may go on, any other cars worth looking at? mini cooper is one i will be considering.

Been there thought about one!lol But i do use my car for commuting to work everyday about 40miles...so want summit fairly new, no more that 5000miles, and thats not to juicy....unlikly to find any new FRPS now...want this car to last a few yrs.
