Just read the test,It is a good honest write up.They don't rate the peugeot at all.Cut a long story short the mini wins the test overall (on price, quality and handling) the ST for Grip and performance but what they rave about on the ST is it's brakes !

hi guys,
well i,ve just put my copy of this weeks autocar down,i need a stiff
drink.how dare they say the fiesta is neither cool or stylish, that
makes my blood boil, and yes they priced it at£13,995.i wont bore you
all with the details. shock horror the mini comes out tops, the st
second and the 207 last.they seemed to slate the ford to me.
i quote "the being an expensive sports car experience thats crawled
in to an unprepossessing hot hatch shell".and saying some fittings are
bargain basement.0 to 60 st7.8 secs, mini 9.1secs 207 8.1secs
plus jamie corstorphine comments were good. at the end of the day i
shall make my own mind up after readin the full test again when i have
finished doing this message.however i will say this i myself really
take pride in my cars,i love my st,i thrive when driving it,yes a
drivers car,i puts a smile on my face,it performs well, breaks well,
its my type of car and it allways will be.
iceman.
p.s. can i just say i hate the interior of the mini it does nothing
for me.

p.p.s all your comments will be greatfully recieved.

The press always praise the mini up mate ant they always will do. I personely prefer the looks of the ST i've drove both cars and i would always pick the ST.
Not a big Mini lover though think its way over priced for what it is.

Its an unfortunate fact the the majority of journalists don't have a clue about cars. And the only persons view that should really matter to you, is your own. I love my Fez ST, and I'd take it over any of the other cars anyday.

Well i will second everyones opinions too. The ST is great at what it does and looks the part too. Each car has its fault, with the ST being no exception, but it does everything else so well IMO that i feel it is the best one too. As for it being expensive, thats ridiculous! Isnt it cheaper than the other two it was tested against?!

Agree 100% here.

Whilst it is one of those things where it is nice to hear that the press also like it, ultimately the only thing that matters is whether you personally think its a good car and nice to drive. And I think that most of us on here would think that it is a pretty damned good car!!

Just read the Article and it makes a big thing of being in "the real world".
I dont disagree with too many of the comments, but in the real world you can pick up an ST for £10500, now thats £2000-3000 cheaper than its rivals which will not be heavily discounted for quite a while. Now look at the more negative comments about the ST and Factor in the price difference in "the real world" and they may well of come to a different conclusion. Factor in you can have all the options for £1500 and its a steal, thats why I bought one. They have an interesting BHP per KG figure, change this to BHP per £ at achievable prices and the Fiesta is unbeatable.
I looked at the Old Mini on my wifes insistance, and she was mortified at the space in the cabin and said no straight away. I am not slagging off any of the other cars as its all down to personal preferance, but if you can put up with the rear space in the Mini surley you only need a two seater and would go for an MX5 or Toyota MR2 type thingy.

Well... the Pegeout 207 GT is £14,345 so definitely dearer and whilst the Mini Cooper starts at £12,995, bear in mind that thats for the basic one, and in reality you can get an ST with extras for less than that. So yes you're right the ST isn't expensive at all compared to those two.

And for a mini with comparable speed you will need to spend a bit more. Yes that would be the cooper s and yes that would be quicker than the ST but also because it is BMW kit is a bit stingy. But each to there own i suppose, at the end of the day it is just one guys opinion of the three cars.

Ive just recieved the latest edition of What car, where there is a roadtest between the 207 and mini cooper....

guess what....

the 207 was the winner!!!

It just proves how much these roadtests are down to the preference of the author..

I agree mate at the end of the day its down to personel preference. I have always bought Peugeots and always raved on how good they are but in this paticular test the ST should of won hands down. It's the quickest, better looking one and handles better. Im with the ST

I think magazine guive to much credit about the Mini never drove one myself but they're everywhere its just a fashion item, maybe its not a good car but its a icon for most of buyer even so it got nothing to do with the old Mini!

MINI Driver here

Performance wise the wins hands down to be honest, hence why one day I will be getting one and flogging the MINI

I wasn't overlly impressed with the test drive, but come up against an in a Cooper S and that was a different matter, really had to floor it to get away!

Well, I've driven both the Swift Sport and the ST and would say that for fun factor, there isn't much in it but again the Swift will come out tops based on its £11.5k asking price. I wouldn't have even considered the ST if I had to pay full whack and the Swift will not budge on price..... I tried and would have bought one if I could have got it for less than £10k as IMO... its up against the C2 and these are 10K (A good deal I think).

In the real world, the ST is bigger (5 seats, not 4), faster and cleverer... Mine even talks to me when I ask it things and the lights stay on when I go home!!! .... PS... yes I'm still enjoying my new car

Mind you.... the Swift does have 2 exhausts as standard and that has to count for something?

They have tested the Swift sport against the ZetecS in What Car? magazine this month. The Suzuki came out on top, but they said the ZS was faster through the box. Interstingly, they didn't feel ther Swift was good enough to be up against the ST though!

Yeah, the swift sport is a cool little car and if it was as competativly priced as the other swifts it would sell a lot more.

I compared the Swift Sport to the C2 VTS, Fabia vRS and ST and would have gone for the Swift if it wasn't as expensive as the ST. It has the same performace as the C2 but is bigger and more useable and it does feel faster than the ST but it isn't.

Its always hard to compare cars as they are never equally spec'd... eg, the Swift Sport has ESP as standard but only a 1 disc CD player which is MP3 capable, but not external source..... The seats aren't as good as the ST but you get a much sportier driving position so it feels more involved. The Swift has keyless entry but only 4 seats that don't split fold.... bla bla bla bla did I mention that the ST does 0-60 in 8 seconds compared to the swift sport's 9?
