Just wondered whether anyone on here who has had there first service has used any other garage apart from to service it??

Interested in the prices you paid as well. I've been quoted £159.

What oil does the car use as I've just checked it and its right on the botton gauge , need to top it up ASAP.

If you do get it serviced at non ford garage they need to carry out the service to ford schedules (see service guide), be VAT registered and use parts to Fords standard.

I've seen service prices for Ford dealerships from £150 to £185

non Ford from £79 - £120

But for the Ford service history i'd rather pay the extra, and any warranty issues they 'should' be able to fix while its in unlike your back street garage.

Hey Rich,

One way I have found to save me money on my service is to buy the correct oil and get them to use it. Dealers charge a ridiculous amount for oil and if there is any left you have some spare for topping the engine up with.

One thing you can do if theres 2 or 3 Ford dealers locally is to play them off against each other, to try and get a cheaper price for the service. I did that and got mine for £129.

Obviously this is no good if you know that one of them is a rubbish garage though!

My dealer charges £195 for ST models but I had an agreed service price of £128 when i bought the car. They put castrol oil in mine (£20.00) I think it was 5w 30 and the filter was £6.66. It's a right con because its only a gloryfied oil change which is worth 30-40 quid.

Thats well good! In this months what car it does have 5 tips on how to get cheaper servicing and one of them is to take it to a garage that uses authentic parts and follows the manufacturers recommendations. Another one which i didnt know, was to take the car to a sister company. Such as taking a citroen to a peugeot dealer for example. They did say though that not all dealers are keen to do this so it can take a while to sort it out. i cant think of a sister company to ford that has a similar car to the ST.

i take it the first service is an interim service(12500mls or 12mths old),
and them the major service is when the car is 2 yrs old???.
obviously the interim service will be cheaper than the major one.

Yeah, first service is 12,500 or one year. The second service is a standard service again at 15,000 or a year after the first service and the major is at 16,500 or a year after the second service depending which comes first. I think the "major service" is just the spark plugs get changed because there is no cam belt.

Eh? I thought the services came in intervals of 12,500 miles or 1 calendar year from the date of delivery? My car didnt get its 2nd service til 25,237 miles and its warranty (what warranty I have left! lol) is intact. Got it for £100 too

Well thats what the ford garage told me (gave me the shedule too) and it was the same with Renault when I had a clio but that was 18,000 or one year. Yep it's yearly intervals from del date. So if I bought the car on the 30th of November I would need to service it before the same date each year. Maybe I did'nt explain it well!

Well I always have mine services every year without fail. I took mine to a local garage, as he is sort of a friend, and it was £130. Just as long as Ford parts are used the warranty is still valid. I personally wouldn't take it to Ford as they usually rip you off and probably don't do what they say......

kath,
ask to take a look at the job sheet 4 your car,and what parts, where used.
i tend to ask 4 job sheet and cross check.however i know its easy 4 them to
say we checked this and checked that, you can only take their word 4 it.

If you've got the time to spare, can always ask to watch them doing the service to make sure that they're doing it properly. It's always good to see what they do.

Different dealerships different labour rates....

But the £129 service sounds like a Ford value service (vehicles over 3 years old) not a Ford scheduled service ( to validate warranty).

Wicked! I gots to keep going there then! (mine cost considerably less). My service has kept the warranty (that I have left) perfectly validated too, not to mention the all important paint & bodywork stamp!

yere £195 for a small service rip off if you ask me what do they do....
change the oil,oil filter, check other fluids, check round car ect,
polar ford bradford has a rapid fit centre for servicing, whats the differance
between getting your car serviced at rapid fit or at the main dealer service
centre more than likely price.

Mine is in at the moment, I rang round and got quoted from £130 to £185. Polar ford was the most expensive!

Just had it done for £146 as the £130 was a crappy garage!
