Alloy wheel theft seems to be on the up, especially at this time of year. From new i've always had two sets of locking wheel nuts, fitted diagonally from eachother because the ST wheels are fairly desirable. I've heard that the standard Ford McGaurd locking wheel are about as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd because they use a small selection of keys. So i've been looking at Evo trilok MK5's because they have a swivelling head. Can anyone recommend these? They came 2nd in the auto express test. Also what is the limit to the number of locking wheel nuts you can put on your car? Is it safe to but more than two lockers on?

Locking wheel nuts are just nuts which are more expensive and have special keys with them, there shouldn't be an issue with how many sets you put on.

It is a good idea to add different types. I did the same when I had my 18" alloys on.

i would really not recommend putting more than one set on! i heard about someone wheel sheering off due to him lacing his wheels in locking wheel nut sets to protect them, theyre not as strong for some reason or his were just crap

I've watched an Evo locking nut undone with a McGard key! I've also heard not very good things about them coping McGard designs (this comes from the guy who is the head of the Ford Security Dept at Dunton). Apparently the word is "the latest designs with a spinning shroud" is the best to get currently fitted to the new Focus & C-Max.

Oh and if you want to put two locking nuts on your wheels (e.g. diagonally opposite each other) then thats fine.

Is there any make available except the EVO that has a "spinning shroud"? So from what people say, two lockers are the limit? Would 3 or 4 lockers be dangerous? Those spinning designs probably saved my last car from having the wheels stolen. I think they should all be like them.

Yes! Sorry! Duuurrr... I missed out the word McGard in my post! lol The McGard ones fitted to the Focus & C-Max are the recommended ones. I dont know about the limits to the number of locking nuts.

No you wont be, there will still be a few streets you can leave it in where some helpful folk will help you take it off while you go shopping!

Your wheels have a lock on the centre cap?

These are the lockers from evo at half the cost of Mcgards.
