Some prick just smashed into my car and drove off!! He/she was part way on my side of the road (over the white line). I tried to move over the best I could with like 1cm off the kerb but the tosser ploughed straight through and did'nt even move. I knew that if I moved any further I would have lost my wheel/suspension so I was stuffed. I waited for 15 minutes with my hazards on but it was obvious whoever it was, is'nt coming back. A guy stopped infront of my and I thought it was him so I was ready to give him a right ear full but it was'nt. He thought I had run out of petrol and was offering a lift! He seemed to be a nice guy and said his mate could fit it up at his spray shop cheap. Its not often people stop for you these days! We tried looking for the wing mirror cap but could'nt find it in the dark. After he went, I heard a crunch as a car went past and that was obviously the end of the mirror trim. I think I've lost my heated mirror and the back painted pannel on the mirror. I suppose it could have been worse but I hope the motor and casing is in-tact. Does anyone know how much it costs to repair it? I'm sure I dont think i'm the first this has happened to.

Cheers
Si

This has happened to someone else on the board... many posts back!!!

It won't cost you too much. I thought the whole side of your car was gone by the first few lines.

Have a look in the light tomorrow and see what damage has been done.

Believe me I thought it was worse! It made a right bang. I just hope the idiot came off worse than I did. How difficult is it to stay in the left hand side of the road? I found a thread about one and the mirror glass alone is £86.86! Looks like its gonna cost It must be because the mirror is heated.

With 10% of cars on the road uninsured, and the likelyhood them being the less interested in keeping their car roadworthy, the chances are you will be hit by someone who does a runner. It is so annoying. So many people think insurance fraud is fair, they dont see someone actually pays

Damn... didn't know it was that much. I just hope you can get it sorted for a fair price. Don't get spraying your mirror, get someone else.

I hate scum like this who dont bother stopping and ruin the rods for th rest of us. It makes me so angry that people could be like this, when people like us, who are insured and use the roads sensibly (I'm sure we all have our moments) have to folk out loads more for our insurance just because they cannot be bothered. T@$$ers the lot of them! Hope you can manage to get the car sorted.

Yup, it is annoying that everyones insurance is put up so high to cover the cost of all those that aren't insured. One of the problems is that even when they get caught, the fines given out are usually far less than what they would have actually paid if they had insurance, so they're still saving money! You'll only start reducing the number of uninsured drivers once they start getting properly punished ie. having to pay out in fines much more than what they would have paid if they'd remained legal.

I'm thinking the death penalty would be a good start.

They will just claim they don't have it... as they will be getting everything off the government anyway.

Get a £10 fine and a slap on the hand for £10,000 worth of damage.

They need to be sent to the middle east and locked up... that should teach them!

It looks like I'll have to go to 's parts department tomorrow for the bad news . It could'nt have happened at a worst time because of all the bills are rolling in. I don't think I've owned a car yet that some fool has'nt damaged yet. I don't know of any ST's in a scrap yard but I suppose thats an option if I can locate one locally. Its probably some gipsy with no insurance - theres a few camps near by. They should get a giving driving ban for leaving the scene of an accident. I wish I could have got the tossers plate but it happened so fast, I did'nt stand a chance. My mate reckons I should report it to the police but what good will that do? Probably give me a crime reference number and tell me to sod off because I've got no number plate. Pisses me off Oh well its just my luck recently, everything seems to be going wrong. I'm sure I'll get it sorted one way or another I just hope I can put it back together again!

Do not take the offer of a cheap spray shop!!

I have been around a while, and smell a rat there. I may be wrong, but think about it.

It's dark so you don't see the car that hits you, (probably stolen, an old banger, or ringed etc)
The guy who stopped! Yeh, nice fella, nice partner to someone who owns a body repair centre who wants some work their way!
He thought you ran out of petrol!!
I think not!
It's this time of year when unfortunately we all have to keep allert. .
