The title says it all. It's silver, not my first choice, with no extras but just over 5k on it.

im not too sure about the second hand value of the ST but i can tell you that my one is costing £10595 brand new with a ford discount voucher.
ive also got the following extras for the above price:

Thats what theyll be trying to do then, make the second hand deal seem great but offloading it onto the price of the new one. still have a look around and just play dealers of against each other.

In the end it's not the offer for trade-in that should be the influencing price, what you should really look at is the cost to change (what it's going to cost you to change motors)

For instance 2 identical cars......

Car A priced at 11k with trade in of 5k means cost to change is 6k.

Car B priced at 10K with trade in of 4.5K means cost to change is 5.5K.

Yes you're being offered less for your old motor, but not paying as much to change with Car B.

Could have probably explained it easier, but it makes sense to me!!!

Rob.

bigboy benji - if you had bothered to read my previous post you would have seen that im getting my ST for £10595 with 4 optional extras. thats a very competitive price so i fail to see how they are making "the second hand deal seem great but offloading it onto the price of the new one".

truth be told im getting an exceptional deal. i totally agree with ginger in that it is all about cost to change. furthermore, you'd be silly not to play the dealers off against each other.

the last dealer i went to couldnt work out how the previous dealer marked up the value of my trade-in car by £1000, not to mention the fact that im still going to recieve 5k for it in March which is 2 moths after the appraisal, in which time the car should depreciate even more.

i cant bloody wait!!!
only thing is, im gonna pop into renualt as well. the new clio 197 is the best hot hatch in the world according to autocar, even better than the focus ST and golf GTI. i can also get a renualt discount voucher so i will be interested to see the difference in the cost to change

i remember walking in to the renault showroom to take a look at the clio 197 before buying my st,bearing in mind i had allready got what i thought was a good £2500 off list price off at a ford dealer down to £11350 for panther black
o.t.r inc 12 mth tax, anyway back to renault i got talking to salesman asking him about what discount i can get on the 197,his reply was "well sir we don,t have to discount the 197 as it sells itself as it happens" i took a test drive and yes impressive but no discount at all so i left and bought my st along with a good discount.

well iceman, if what you are saying is true then ill stick with the fiesta. once i load up the clio with what i want it will prob be around the 17k mark and without a discount is simply faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too expensive seeing as though im getting the fiesta for 10.5k

only thing is im sure my uncle said something about a 20% discount with his friends and family voucher, but im not entirely sure as that was a long time ago.
