that is odd. i'm the policy holder and mian driver, with mam and dad as named drivers but with use of other cars (although they are hardly ever in it, i think my mam has done about 25 miles in it in 1 and 1/2 years!) and its 900 if they wern't on it, i'm looking at over a grand. have you tried Admiral? have you got your mam down as having the use of another car? cos if they only think she is going to be in it now and again as opposed to 1/2 of the time, maybe thats why?

Whatever you do, don't try CIS (Co-op Insurance). I used to work there. Every insurance business has defining business rules as to what sort of driver they prefer. CIS don't like high grouped cars and under 25 drivers. So if you have a car over group 9 and you're under 25, they'll either give you the stupidest quote ever, or decline to quote.

I insured my ST myself, fully comp, for the year, upto 12,000 miles, for just under £700. I am very happy with that. That's with Elephant btw. Directline quoted me just over £800. Every other company was way too expensive (£1300+).

I think a combination of being a touch older (24), plus driving for 7 years with no claims or accidents, plus the fact that my car is always parked in my driveway at night helped keep the cost down. But still, I was surprised. I expected it to be £900 - £1000 for the year.

I was quoted £950 with elephant which i didnt think was too bad for a 20 year old with 3 years no claims bonus. elephant seem like a good place to go.

That seems a very good price, might give them a try!

I agree, for 20 years old, that's a great price.

I actually tried them a few moments ago and they were cheap.

I have actually been driving as a named driver under my Dad's insurance for the last few years, so I don't have any no claims as the policy is in his name. However for the first time in my name for a 21 year old on an it was still good!

minw was around the 1000 mark but coz i lowered the excess and shoved on guaranteed car hire, and the fact i never really owned my own car since this one, always been driving 3rd party on a clio. So this really aint too bad at all. been told that it will be down to 790! at the end of my policy, so cnt wait for that ball to drop, shame the quote wont save till that long

When I rang up admiral they said i fell in to their "favoured drivers" catergory which is under 25 with high powered cars. although i think he was maybe fibbing, cos insurance companies usually don't like that! although they were the cheapest out of anyone, so maybe they do give good quotes to drivers in that catergory, so that they get lots of young people going to them - more business for them i suppose if word gets around?
