Following the advice of other members i decided to get a new car insurance quote with an older driver on. I only pay just over £500 a year fully comp but thought i'd see if i could save money by putting my mum on. She's in her 50's, been driving for 17 yrs, no claims or accidents, no convictions and full no claims bonus. Anyway i was shocked when the quote came back at £1470!! Why would i be paying nearly triple to but my mum as a named driver?? anyone got any ideas?

i went through it twice and tried one othr insurance company which also add a lot on (just over double!) i don't ge it. But i remember years ago when i had a had a ka it cost more with my mum on the insurance! But when i got quote to go on my ex's car (ST170) it was gonna bring his insurance down by a few hundred pounds! oh well, never mind. Mystery of insurance!

maybe because its a woman? but usually its cheaper for woman to insure compared to man because woman "should" be safer driver!

Insurance is a big mystery to me also.

For me as a sole driver on my ST, driving for 25 years, no convictions, full NCD with no claims in over 20 years came out at £350.

When i added my wife to the policy, driving for 10 years, no convictions but has had 2 claims in the last 5 years, they knocked £40 off! .

if i was to be insured on my own policy it would be nearly £4000 with my dad its £700 and if we were to add my mum to it(no convictions for any of us btw) it would be over £1000
