Thought i'd add a poll (easy to reference that way) of ST fuel consumption (average for each tank please!) Just completed my first tank, so thought it's be interesting to see what average consumption people were getting!

i hope its gonna deliver what the specs promise because otherwise im gonna have to go with the diesel 1.6 engine on an S fiesta instead of the 2.0 ST. Fuel cost is killing me in my current ride (Golf 3 '89)

When i first got it, it did
10 liters/100 km = 28.2480936 miles/gallon(UK)
now, thanks to my driving skills, it went down to
8 liters/100 km = 35.310117 miles/gallon(UK)

but still, that costs me about 45 EURO or 31.30 GBP
that's way to much if you tank more then once a week I feel.
I wouldn't mind if insurance and such weren't already sky-rocketing on wheels like this.

A few more tanks have been consumed now, and thought i'd leave an update. Things havent improved massively; in the last 3 fills i've had 27mpg, 29mpg, 32mpg. The current tank i'm guesstimating at 31mpg. I'm still taking it pretty easy, so god knows what it'd do if I gave it some beans.....

for the liter users, i have found a easy to use convertor for the mpg towars l/100km

http://www.pege.org/fuel/convert.htm

tbh 7.5l/100km isnt that bad at all. my 1.4tdci does 5-6l/100km most of the times now (depends on how heavy the foot was)

btw, is there someone that has been driving like a maniac and wrote down that mpg? i am very interested in that number because i will be driving that way for like 4 years

I'm interested to know too since mine is coming in 2 weeks time!!

As long as it's better than the 23mpg I average from my Impreza I'll be happy!

Fuel consumption aint to bad i suppose - my 1st tank did approx 30mpg, and just worked out my second at about 34 mpg approx doing mainly motorway miles (80 - 90mph) though!!!! definately not as good as mpg as on my mk5 Zetec S! not surprsing considering its a 2.0l - but the ford figures showed em to be pretty much the same for both cars! - if the mpg doesnt get much better its working out at about an extra £3 a week for me at fill up! (£156 pa)!!! but....worth it though cos the cars mint!

Hugh - Running costs as a whole are expensive on a scooby, that's why I'm changing mine. Mine is a 1998 year Turbo 2000 which is a UK car. I have done 22500 miles in the 13 months I have owned the car which has involved a mixture of motorway, town driving, fast and steady driving. I would say my overall average fuel consumption has been about 24mpg. Compared to a lot of other scooby owners I know that is actually quite good

It depends on what you want and how many miles you will do as to whenther you can justify the costs. My average annual mileage will be 20k and with the service intervals on the classic shape Impreza being only 7500 miles they come round very quick too and are not cheap.

If you can justify the expense they are a fabulous car to drive.

The Fiesta ST for me a a happy compromise, enough power to have some fun with but not expensive to run compared to the scooby. Just my insurance was a big saving. I renewed my insurance on the Impreza at the benining of January and withthe ST coming on 3rd March my insurance company are sending me nearly £300 back

Hope this helps, if you want any more scooby info please ask.

Ian

That's great Ian, thanks for that. I'd be looking to get a new one which currently has 3 years free servicing, something that obviously sounds like it could be a real benefit. Mileage wise in the last 4months I have done 7000miles. This is slightly above average for me but the lowest I have got out of a tank on the Mondeo is 44mpg. The increase in fuel doesn't bother me too much just as long as I'm not down the garage every other day filling up.

Reading about it seems they can range between 16-30mpg depending on how much fun you're having, would you agree with that? The only thing I am want is to be able to get 30-32mpg whilst cruising at 70-85mph. Do you think this is possible? I am quite a smooth driver so can usually be pretty efficent (by that I mean I rarely need to use the brakes on the motorway by aticipating the braking up ahead and adjusting my speed). I know when you get a car like this you shouldn't really worry about economy but it's not like I'm looking to run a 4 litre V8 Jag which I know I can get 27mpg out of.

Hi Hugh - Yes the 3 years free servicing on offer at the moment is a good deal. Unfortunately the cost of buying a new one was a bit more than I wanted to stretch to for a new WRX.

Are you looking at a WRX or STi?

I know someone who bought a new STi recently and they are struggling to get as good fuel consumption as me

With a new WRX I would expect the figures to be similar. I know that 30mpg is technically possible but I have yet to meet an Impreza owner that has achieved it ecen with the sort of driving you mentioned. I would think that at steady motorway cruising the best to expect would be high 20's. If you then get more that's a bonus.

I was a member on a couple of the forums and used to go to a few meets so i have met a lot of scooby owners with varies models of the Impreza. If you want any more info let me know.

Ian

Thanks again Ian, that's very helpful.
I am aiming just for the WRX, they are available at some places new for about 4k under list price and I have an excellent contact at a Subaru dealer so am hopeful of an excellent deal. The STi is a lovely version but I think it's a bit too much for a roadcar given the revenue raisers that are appearing everywhere. I want something a little bit sporty for the roads and a cheap track car for real fun. The main attraction for me of the Subaru is it being 4x4 and practical - I was aiming for a Mk1 Lotus Elise otherwise.

I'll mull it over and see if anyone will trust me enough for a 24 hour test drive. Thanks again for your help,

Hugh
