I heard a car alarm going off last night so i got up and looked out the window and decided it wasn't mine cos the hazzards wern't on (although how ciould i mistake the little noise of the ST alarm - nothing else sounds like it!) but i went outside just to make sure that i hadn't got it wrong and the hazzards wern't supposed to flash when it waas going off. Anyways it turns out it was mine. I know how quiet the alarm is but it sounded very loud last night, but I suppose thats cos it was quiet out side, in a noisy area you wouldn't hear it. Do the hazzards not flash when the alarm goes off? I thought they did? Is my alram faulty or something or did i get it wrong?

I think the hazards are meant to flash yeh...you might need to get it checked out.

Mine has been going crazy in the cold weather at night recently and I'm taking it to Ford tomorrow. Looks like the old GEM problem has reared its ugly head

Sometimes the hazards don't flash like you've experienced. However, I've also heard my car unlock itself as well!

Was really annoyed off last night. I've been taking the keys up to bed so I can just go to the window and reset the alarm if it goes off. Last night in the dark I pressed the wrong button twice in a sleepy stupor and heard the tailgate open. I had to put my dressing gown on and a go out and shut the tailgate.

fordie yes the hazzards are supposed to flash when the alarm goes off,i have been down this road myself with hazzards not flashing and yes the gem mudule was faulty,now its fine however the alarm is louder inside the car than outside.
so its your gem module that needs looking at or replacing.

ok so it your opinion is should take it in asap. the soonest i can go is next tuesday can you tell me how long it will roughly take? can they do it in a day cos i doubt they'll give me a courtesy car for more than 1 day

yeh should be able to fix it in a day but it does depend if they need to order a part.

well that all depends if they have the part as a stock item,my dealer had to order one and it took alltogether 2 week yes 2 week to complete the job,i was foaming cos of lengh of time it took,that said i got a courtesy car from them.best bet is to check and see if its a stock item or not and if not wait till they get one in then book the car in,it should only take a couple of hours all been well.

Just got mine back today.

It went in for diagnostics this morning but they said they've sorted it out.

Apparently it wasn't one of the earlier GEM modules that needed replacing (they checked the code with Ford) and it just needed reprogramming. Apparently you can't do this with the other modules.

Just hope it's sorted the problem out.

Hi,

Ford dealers should know about the problems people are having with alarms. There is a fix (replace gem unit).

My local dealer took my car in looked at it and then ordered the unit. Shame with so many being faulty I would have expected these units to be on the shelf, although I don't know wether the dealer has the ability to program the required codes.

Anyway, that was last week, as I was working nights this week, I booked the car to go in to have the unit replaced today. Have now got it back and all appears ok. Best find some wood to touch.... oh! there we go, my head will do!!!!

So as above have said, best let Ford take a look, sometimes they do know what they're on about!!!

Whats the easiest way to test it?

Ive had a new Gems fitted, but never thought to test it works O.K!!
