Jonny - I know what you mean. After the test drive I thought that the car wasn't as involving as it could be but I think its a case of getting used to it. The ST is a gem that just gets better than harder you push it. There have been many discussions about how fast the ST is and I think the general belief is "faster than you first think". I stilllove getting into my old 306 D-Turbo for a play..... more rewarding to get it around a corner quickly. I guess the ST could be described as effortless

Well ive test driven the St 3 times now, and i would defo say id b DOWN grading!! Its a shame really, because i do really like the St, spec looks wise, does look a really nice car....but for performance, and sheer driving its just not there, well not compared to the puma. Each time ive drove home from a test drive in my car i just feel like im in such a better "drivers car"...from the noise to the acceleration to the handling, its just better? wot can i say? Purely my opinion but i have been dissapointed...Still not to say i wont go for an St as i do like them, but i just wanted more from it.
Is it a ford racing puma you have Jon? The reason you may think that is because you are used to your puma and what it can do, once you are used to an ST, you may then prefer it once you realise what it is capable of.

No just a standard 1.7 puma....i think u may well b rite. ive had the puma for 7yrs, So im bound to b set in my ways a little! Plus fact u never realy have long enough on test drive to really tell wot car can do. As i said i think the ST is a great looking car and obviously a very fast one...im still making mind up, just dont want to lose anything that my puma has.

Has anyone tryed the swift sport?? test drove 2day, was quite impressed...looks every bit as good as ST, spec the twin exhausts at back...and as for performance, id say pretty good, didnt blow me away, but still felt quick and sounded good in lower gears...may well be tempted ahead of ST..very good car for money....plus suzuki have offered me 350 quid more for my puma than ford did!!

I tried the suzuki, but I've heard aftercare is a bit crap... Also the car didn't quite feel right. I do agree they look really good though! I guess it helped that the guy who demo'd the ST with me knew how to drive so he kinda showed it off well But I agree. You will not go wrong with the ST.

I tried the Swift sport and loved it but it is smaller than the ST and doesn't have split folding rear seats (still bigger than the C2 mind you!) I liked the handling and had the Cambridge dearler who was desperate to sell tell me it had limitless grip...... well my only response was "I'll be the judge of that" and threw it into a slide on the next roundabout (don't worry peeps..... empty road) The fear in the guys face was a picture I'll never forget! Personally I think the ST is better in every way. Its faster, bigger (whilst still being a small car), more practical and cheaper! (I was looking just before the UK launch so they wouldn't budge on price) Its still a nice car mind you and less common than the ST.

here ST are not common at all! so if I buy a Swift it may become even more rare!!

Swift is the cheaper, and maybe slightly more economical with the 1.6 engine....St is faster and has more room, prob generally the better car, comes with more on it, ie..6 track and air con...probably still with ST rite now.
