On one of the other ST forums, one of the early ST's has had an ECU update at it's 1500 check up. According to the poster, he was told by the garage that cars had left the factory with retarded timing and this update would cure it. In his opinion the update made the engine rev more freely.
Can any of the forums regulars who work for Ford give any more details?

There are ECU upgrades released almost monthly after a new vehicle launch and periodically after that. My KA suffered terribly from an old upgrade but for ages they canned all upgrades as there was a problem with it and it risked wiping the EPROM blank!

Most gagrages will refuse to do the upgrade until serice time but if you stamp your feet they will normally oblige.

Interesting, since i've had mine i kept saying it doesnt feel like 150bhp......

I have a Fiesta LX and I'm looking at buying an ST. However, I have a slight reservation as my current Fiesta has an erratic idling speed. Sometimes it can be fine, averaging 800ish rpm. On other occasions it can be up to 1500rpm and the only way to bring it back to normal is to turn the engine off and start the car again!

I've been back and forth to Ford and they've updated the engine management softaware three times and the problem is still there.

Does anyone have this problem with the ST?
